More Goodbyes

So the Peanut Girls are going back to the shelter today.  I'm going to miss their happiness and purring.  Lucy reminds me so much of my Muffin it's a little scary.  My friend at work said she deserves a chaise lounge and I couldn't agree more.  She is a little diva.

I changed from making brochures to one page fliers of info for my kittens to go back with because the online brochure maker was no longer free.  I got the brilliant idea to use up some of the card stock I have laying around the house and made cards for them with their info last night and I really liked it.  I didn't much like the fact that my printer couldn't really handle the card stock and everything was slightly off kilter, but they still look pretty good.

It is tough from going to "I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU!!' to "you have to go now" but again I know it is the best for everyone and some how I do.

It does help that I have more kittens.

but more on that in a bit.

this is what it is like - sorta

the volume is not nearly as loud as it is in real life, but this is a good representation of what happens when I go in and visit the happy happy kittens

And then for fun, I gave them their first taste of raw food. It wasn't the big hit that it usually is. Little Sally felt a little overwhelmed and left to play, and then the others were all like "well if she is playing"...

Happy Happy Kitten Time

Sally
Sally has a constant left over food mustache.  I keep asking her if she is saving it for later, and she just looks at me like I'm so mean for taking it off of her.  She's 1lb 10 oz.. slowly but surely that weight will get on her..
Patty
Patty is so funny.  She's a love bug and an athlete.  I rarely get both in a kitten.  You'll see the love bit in a bit.  For some reason she also reminds me of my sister as a child.
Violet
Violet REALLY wants to know what is on the other side of the door.  She threw herself from the arm of the couch (behind her in this pict) over the baby gate I use to keep the kittens in the room.  I was a little surprised that she made it, and I think she was too because she froze once she hit the ground.  I'm very glad because if she had taken off running I might still be chasing her.
Excuse me, coming through - Lucy

Little Miss Diva
Lucy reminds me so much of my own kitty Muffin.  The coloring is different but it is the placement is same on the two kitties.  The personality is VERY similar.  I have to keep reminding myself they aren't related.  The other day I went in and they were SOOOO HUNGRYYYY!!!! and the other three were under my feet, but Lucy was near by throwing herself on her side and showing me her belly.. reaching out as if on a desert and she was searching for water.. she gets the academy award for acting paws down

Here are a few more picts I just really liked:
Patty

Sally
this pict of Sally above is so adorable, I thought if I rotated it so it looked like she was "standing" that it would look a little zombie like, but it really didn't and it just ruined the cuteness of the photo..   Love her paws, LOVE her rotund little belly full of food..
Sally

Patty.
She snuggled like that for a while.. She rested her chin on my chest for a bit and killed me dead with her cuteness

Chimera Kitten

a while back I read a blog that called their kitten a Chimera Kitten because it had a patch of different coloring on it.  I found it fascinating even if I didn't fully believe it.  Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.. genetics - when it comes to coloring - is a very interesting thing, but regardless of the truth of the matter I've got one.

Little violet has a patch of orange tabby on her chest/upper belly.  It is the cutest thing.

talking to kittens

I'm starting to believe that cats understand a LOT more then we give them credit for.  There have been incidents with my own crew, but I've chalked that up to the whole spending so much time together thing.

The other day I was down with the four girls and I was watching TV.  I looked around and saw Lucy sitting in front of the water bowl. I don't spend a lot of time worrying about water for the kittens since they eat so much canned food and it is rare that I get a set of kittens that actually drinks water.. well she was sitting there patiently and I had to wonder if the bowl was empty so I asked her.  She looked at me, stood up, and then walked over to the bowl and stepped in it as if to say "YES! it is very much empty!!"   I couldn't help but laugh and I went over and filled it up. she took a lick and walked away.  I don't think she was thirsty, I think she just wanted it filled up - which is so like her.

Then today while I was down playing with them Sally was hanging back.  I get the distinct impression that she is much like a 4-5 yr old kid hanging out with 8 yr olds.  She wants to play but they overwhelm her.  So she sat on the side lines.  After a few minutes she started backing away then turned around but she was doing it a bit oddly.  The best way to describe it would be if another kitten jumped on her, but there was no one around her.  I called her name and she perked right up, turned on a dime and RAN towards me.  We snuggled for a bit and then climbed up on the couch.  I gave her a mouse to play with to build up her confidence, but after a few minutes she did want to play with the bigger kittens.  she didn't want to jump down from the couch, so she ran over to the window seat (which is higher up) and tried to jump down,  so I called to her again and told her to come back and she squeaked and ran right over to me.  It was just the cutest thing.

Kate and Pip have made HUGE strides.  Kate has adjusted to Bug just fine.  Pip is a little upset by the whole thing.  She's growling pretty easily at things.. but she's not hiding.  DH came in and sat with them for a bit and was able to pat Kate's belly.    I had to trim their claws because they were drawing blood.  I thought Kate would hate that more, but it was Pippa who ended up in the burrito.  There was also no poop in their litter boxes today.. I know raw causes things to be dramatically less and is very healing to the colon, so hopefully things are back on the right track.  They ate like fiends this evening so I don't think that they are having issues.. but I will be keeping a close eye on things.

Edited because I just remembered the Jack incident.  I was sitting on the couch and he was on the arm trying to be cool (it was leather, so it was a little hard for him to perch like he wanted) Jack is a jealous boy, and likes it when I give him attention in front of the other kitties.  I was talking to him and told him I wanted him to give me a kiss.  Well this isn't something he normally does, leaning in for me to kiss him, and again he was perched on leather and he was having a hard enough time keeping his footing, but I kept asking him, and he turned and leaned in and let me kiss him.  It was so sweet.

and Happy World Cat Day!

The Broom must Die

Why every set of kittens decides that the broom must be attacked, I have no idea.   But they do...

In the new layout of this room, I've been able to hang the broom up on the wall so for the most part they don't have access to it.  This was when it was down to be used and it was irresistible

Little Miss Lucy

I hope she doesn't mind that she doesn't have an overly dignified name

Not that she's an overly dignified kitten...

Little Miss Violet

Balancing on and...

playing in

Little Miss Violet is turning in to a true Tortie.  While she is pretty laid back, she knows what she wants and she doesn't let anything stop her from getting it.

good news, good news, and not so good news

Well I finally named the babies.. Little Miss FluffyButt was being all adorable in a "I'm going to conqure the world" sort of way, and the tiny orange kitten was looking so sweet and innocent, and I came up with Lucy and Sally.  The larger orange kitten was being all sporty so I named her Patty and the tortie is Violet.

*phew* I was starting to wonder if I would EVER come up with names for them.

This evening I went into the bathroom where Kate and Pippa are, and they were sitting on top of their carrier.  I said hello and they just looked at me.  I tried to figure out who was who, and Pippa started purring.  I kept talking softly, explaining I was going to walk across the room and scoop the box and put down food and leave,... and while I did all this *Kate STAYED on TOP of the carrier!!!*  usually she runs and hides behind the toilet or in the carrier (the door is removed)  This is HUGE.   of course later when I went in again to medicate them she ran.. and when I went to get her she hissed, but it was a good night!

as for the not so good news, I realized my Skippy is all congested again.  He was looking quite pathetic and shaking his head ever so slightly so I thought either he had ear issues or something stuck in his mouth.  So I told him I was going to pick  him up and look him over and I got a good look.  Ears clean, teeth beautiful but he sniffled quite severely.  His eyes are clear and nothing is dripping from his nose, and he ate dinner. but this is the worst he has sounded in quite some time (I believe he has a recurring case of bordatella) I'm hoping this will clear right up like it has every other time, but I will have to keep an eye on him.

Happy Happy Kitten Time

Hey, you are on the wrong side for play

We are full of blur
My husband showed up a few minutes later.  Shoes are not allowed to be worn with kittens around (too easy to step on them) so he took his shoes off.. they were of GREAT interest.
What is in here?

No Sis, your FEET go in there.. not your head!

Meet the babies

Little Miss Little Orange
She is gaining weight all be it slowly. She is all bones and fur and purr with a huge heaping does of sweetness thrown in. She really enjoys being on my lap and patted.
In this shot you can see how frail she looks..
She likes looking in the camera.

Little Miss Big Orange
She is such a ham

Little Miss INTHERN
She is doing well.. she tends to suck on the food hence her face is all dirty

Little  Miss Tortie

Yup, she's special..

The kittens are free!!

So last night I walked into the kitten room and little Miss "I Need To Have Everything Right Now" started screaming at me (the long haired tabby/calico apple headed kitten)  She has a way of screaming (not meowing mind you) that would make someone who is not looking at her think you were being horrible.  I got out a bowl put some food in it, and put it and her on the floor.

well that shut her up for a moment, then she realized she wasn't getting patted and she screamed again, but by that time I had put a few of her siblings down with her. She took a second and looked around.  She was out of the cage.. there was room to run around it.. this was enough of a distraction that both attention and food were forgotten about.

I had time to sit and watch them, and they were quite adventerous.  Little Miss Tortie was the first to climb my leg and get in my lap.  Little Miss INTHERN (I swear I can turn that into a real name) was the first to attempt to climb the cat tree.  Little Miss Little Orange was the first to stop playing and meow for attention, and Little Miss Bigger Orange quickly pounced on her.

The tortie is quite a character.. She seems to know the world will give her everything she wants and she just sits there and waits for it.  INTHERN wants it all and wants it all NOW!!!  she was in my lap getting attention and left to play, and when she hit the floor she realized she wasn't being patted any more and ... she yelled at me for it!!  lol.

They were quite adept at getting on the couch, jumping off, climbing the two cat trees and getting off of them, so I left them free roaming.  This morning they were so happy to see me, and the room wasn't destroyed, so it's all good.  Man these are fun kittens.

I started to regret taking two litters at one time, as I said before it is a bit overwhelming.  I got to thinking about all the problems having a set of kittens in my bathroom creates (and has created but more on that in a bit) but I really have the best of both worlds.  Kittens who are full of personality and energy and fun, and kittens who need extra attention and care.

I didn't take any more photos at this point, but I will on the weekend.

momwhatareyoudoing!!!

Mom, what are you doing in the back bathroom??
Putting the new kittens in there...
Who? us??
But what about that room downstairs you never let us in that you usually have kittens in that has been painfully empty that you STILL won't let us in??

Yea, well there are kittens in that room too my dears..
That would be us

and me
So I got a call from the second shelter and they wanted to set me up with an orientation, which wasn't going to happen for a while and I guess I didn't hide my disappointment.  She said she did have kittens now and if I could come up they could do the orientation and send me on my way with the kits.  I checked with my boss and off I went.  No where is perfect and I get that, but it does give me a new appreciation for the shelter I normally foster with.  They also expect that foster homes buy their own food.. very interesting.... but man these kittens have personality up the freaking wazoo.  the little long haired tabby .. well just look!!

I swear this one could pull off her own twitter feed or even a blog all on her own even at this age!!  She seems the biggest but she's fluff.  The tortie is 15 oz.. she's 14, the larger orange one is 12 and the smaller is 9oz.  They are all bones and meow.. I've got my work cut out for me packing on the pounds.

As for the two little grey ones, I got an email when I got back into the office offering me two six week old gray kittens.  I figured I'd have them for a short period of time, so I said what the heck.  Well they have diarrhea and are hissy, and are pretty small (I didn't weigh them yet) so they'll probably be here a while.

so now I need six girl names..
