Tails from the Foster Kittens - 2018 a year in review

January:

This year started out, once again, without kittens. We had just moved to NH two months before and we were not settling into the house as well as we had hoped. It was a nice home, but it just didn't suit our needs. We had plans to renovate it but we were having a hard time getting anyone to help us with that and so we were quite frustrated.

I took some time to write a post about FeLV and I bought a new chair that I really like and I got a very good deal on. Yes, the blog was quite boring

February:

February was an incredibly slow month on the blog with just six posts and two of them being sponsored content. Fleurp started her spring molt a little early that year and looked quite rough for a while because she really hates it when I groom her.

March:

Things started to pick up in March. I shared with you how Jack liked to make me jealous when I was busy and couldn't pay attention to him. Twee had a dental and had a very bad reaction to the sedation so we are planning on never doing that again. I noticed a rather large lump on Eli - which is still there and hasn't changed so we are thinking it is a lipoma - since he has two others.

I tried to drum up some interest in this kittenless kitten blog by asking you which of The Crew you thought was the cutest and I ended the month with my annual "Make Mine Chocolate" post. I have owned two bunnies in my life and I love rabbits as pets, but they do have unique requirements and I think people should know about them before adopting.

April:

In April, Jack started shivering. I do not know if this was connected to what ended up taking his life in just a few short months, but I will regret not looking into this further. The vet wrote it off as his being an old man and it was very cold when he would do it. She was most likely right, but hindsight is never kind, is it?

This month I also went to Kansas City to go to BlogPaws. I was chosen as a Chewy influencer and they contracted with me to pay my way; my hotel stay and airfare. Unfortunately, I still haven't seen reimbursement for despite contacting them several times on this

I also wrote up a post about those little black cysts that cats get in their ears.. mostly because we were having issues with them.

May:

May finally saw kittens back on this kitten blog. Michaela came to me pregnant and gave birth here.

I also shared with you my trip to the Great Plains animal shelter (wow, not one post about Jack all month.. but there was one about Fleurp)

June:

June brought lots of cute kitten photos as well as the much loved "naming day" post.

One of the online groups I was in was having a huge debate over goat milk being an appropriate milk replacer for kittens, so I wrote a post about it. I have been using it for years and all of my kittens have been happy and healthy with great growth and weight gain and minimal if no diarrhea that many kittens suffer with when they are on commercial products. I was sold but so many people had been told there was no taurine in the milk (not true) or that there wasn't as much fat in it (which is true but there is more than enough) so the kittens would be undernourished in that regard (not true). People wanted facts, not antidotes so I spent some time pulling articles and contacting sellers of goat milk to get the facts so I could put them in one place so the next time someone told me emphatically that using goat milk was going to kill kittens, I could share with them the facts. .

Wow.. no Jack photos in June either, but there was a post about Twee and one about Skippy.. and I even updated you all on Fleurp's annual bout with anemia and how shaving her seemed to help.

July:

You know I was going there because this is the one post that still makes me laugh when I think about it..  The squirrel post came out better than I thought it would and I still love these collages of the kittens from birth until ten weeks .. it is rare that I have good headshots for all the kittens for every week they are with me, and considering the turmoil of the year I am thrilled I was able to get these.
I also announced that Michaela was leaving us to go and nurse another set of kittens that lost their mom..

I also found a photo of Jack that I uploaded but didn't make into a post, so you saw (but no one noticed - or if they did they didn't say anything) a post of Jack back at the old house.

August:

In August I finally announced that we were moving. It was an incredibly rough year, much more so that I have ever let on, and by this point, I was pretty close to losing it. Fortunately, my kitten supplier knew just what I needed and provided me with another batch of kittens.. Michaela and her new charges needed a place to stay and I had a kitten room that was aching for kittens. Fortunately, these kittens were happy to give massages

August saw a couple of informational posts, such as my experiences with giving CBD to my cats and another mythbusting post about Pedyalite for kittens - since there had been a great deal of fear-mongering about giving it to kittens. Skippy celebrated National Bow Tie Day and I shared with you my new obsession with the wildlife in my backyard

September:

Things were going well in September, unpacking this time around went much smoother, things were falling into place, the kittens were doing well - even if they were being obnoxious and were ready to move on - and then things went south quickly and then they got worse.

As for The Crew, I noticed things weren't as they should be with Muffin and Jack. Muffin went to the vet and it was recommended that we give her fluids more often so I blogged about doing that in conjunction with a sponsored post hoping to make it a little more shareable and interacted with as sponsored posts are what keep a lot of bloggers going. Supporting those, commenting on those posts (not just here but any blog you visit) helps a great deal.

Jack's symptoms were minor and I was trying to decide if they were even a thing.. as I tend to be paranoid and no more so after things go bad..

I also shared more photos of the deer that visit my backyard

October:

I was still processing the loss of Graham when the unimaginable happened. Weirdly I posted a conversation about grief in the form of a poem I had with Muffin a few months prior the day before everything went bad having no idea what was about to happen. And when I say bad, I mean really bad. I mean "you take on a pregnant cat because you need a project to distract yourself and realize that isn't enough so you take on another pregnant cat" bad.

(my lamenting about Jack's passing has been hidden in white font, highlight if you want to read it, or just skip if you don't have tissues)

I didn't have the time to process his illness.. to give him a calm and serene goodbye I would have liked, that he deserved. Every time I went to check on him every fiber of my being, every cell, everything was screaming "NOOOO!!!" at him. I can't imagine how horrible that made him feel. I really wish I could have had even a few more hours to come to terms with it - but even to this day three months later my body is still whimpering "no no no no no no".  Emmy took over a year, Ollie took a little longer. Kit was only a matter of weeks but it was so obvious that she wasn't going to make it from pretty early on. Jack took just a few days.. from the nosebleed at night, to the vet appointment the next day, to his rapid and horrific decline so we made an appointment for that next day. He still looked healthy and beautiful... but he wouldn't even eat his beloved dry food - which I always joked would be his last meal..

But life moves on, and Darcy gave birth to five kittens and three survived, and Onyx gave birth to four. I was asked for a calendar of Michaela and her two sets of kittens so I created one. I have learned a great deal and if I do it again I will photoshop the images to have captions of names and a little more information about each kitten.

And then Twee ended up in hospital. (she got better)

November:

November was particularly hard for me. My husband's work was keeping him out of the house a lot and there was no Jack and kittens who weren't affectionate enough to make up for the loss. There were a few posts, like where I shared the names I had chosen for Darcy's kittens and Onyx's kittens.  I also wrote up a post about adopting one of my foster kittens if you ever think you might want to..

December:

As you can see here, I was able to get my Christmas card put together and ordered. I also put up the Christmas Tree which in retrospect seems like it was a bad idea since I became quite sick from whatever got into the cat toys and Fleurp tried (we suspect) to eat it.  She is doing better but is losing quite a bit of fur due to the stress of it all. Even now I hear her munching on the tree and I'm very close to pitching the thing right out the window.  (ho ho ho)

I did have quite a bit of fun with a six-part series of posts about the Kittens' Christmas sweater party. (1,2,3,4,5,6) Darcy and Onyx's kittens hit weight and were neutered and went up for adoption. The waiting list was long enough that the kittens all made it home by Christmas. Ren and Spottacus went together, Zephy and Wyatt went together. Kreb and Romy went together and Milo went by himself - which worked out really well because he was always okay playing by himself. Darcy and Onyx started becoming friends once the kittens were gone. I received notification that someone wanted to adopt Onyx so she left. I was worried about how Darcy would react but she took it in stride, much like when her kittens left. I think she likes being able to play without having to share. I just wish I could get Darcy out of her shell. I recently received notice that Darcy has someone interested in her so she won't be here much longer either.

Looking forward:

There are projects I have for the kitten room. I want new paint and new lighting for certain. I'd love to get new flooring in the bathroom down there but that might have to wait until next year. I have some shelves I would like to put up and some art. I'm actually searching Pinterest for baby room ideas - and man I hope I don't start getting baby advertisements now.

I am overly paranoid about all of my cats right now as well and I am going to have to get them all into the vet for a checkup over the next few months. With the moving and the holidays and the onslaught of vet bills, I am thinking of opening up my "scrapnipping" venture, where I make catnip toys out of scraps of my craft fabric that I have laying around.  It has been a while since I did this.. so I'm curious what you think a good price point would be. Would you like to buy toys individually or in sets?  Do you like pure nip or nip and fiberfill for a fluffier toy? I am pretty sure I still have some alpaca fur.. would fur stuffed toys interest you? No suggestion or comment is unwanted, please, I would like to know your thoughts. If you don't feel comfortable posting them in the comments, feel free to email me at connie at kittyblog.net

toys I made in 2016

I also want to take a moment and thank you for taking this journey with me. Whether you have just joined us or are a long time reader, I appreciate you taking part of your day to spend with my kitties. Your support is greatly appreciated.

I have mentioned this before but it has been a while - Your comments, your time, shared with me, helps me do what I do. Being active in rescue and within online rescue communities, I see so much of the bad side of pet ownership. It is people like you, who value cats, who find value in a little blog on the corner of the internet that helps remind me that there is good out there, that there are people who think cats are worth more than toasters..

Tails from the Foster Kittens - a year in review

January:

2017 started out kittenless and I was grasping for things to blog about so I talked to you about an unconventional rescue I was a part of and learning about the unicorn I adopted. I also performed major surgery on Raffe and then poof..

I had another kitten to take care of. Rupert. Rupert was a stealer of hearts and super adorable, unfortunately, he was very ill and we could not fix him. After caring for him for several weeks he was returned to the shelter to make a final determination as to what could be done for him and it was decided it was kinder to let him go.

Eli started showing signs of illness that didn't turn into anything (which happened this January too, so I will have to keep an eye out next January) and I had a little fun with a feather Jack got stuck in his tail.

February:

I went to the shelter to take some photos of shelter kitties. I also did a recap of life with my cats and their various health concerns. February is notorious for being kittenless so I usually do a found of Former Foster Friday posts and this year was no different. I also was able to offer my foster room to two former fosters who needed a place to hang out while their mom went on vacation

at the very end of the month, another set of kittens were bestowed upon us.

March:

Max and Trina were brought up from Mississippi and had some fun adventures here including their first taste of raw food. Jack had a little issue with a toy mouse and the magnet on his collar that had me laughing so hard. I then did a little house cleaning of some sponsored posts I wanted to talk about before heading down to Florida. Jack fell in love with a Polar Bear rug Rachel sent us, and the amazing Julie from Cats Going Places offered to put me up so we could go to Global together. It was a very interesting and nearly overwhelming experience. It was so nice to be staying in a home with cats to decompress each evening. We even went to a cat cafe.

April:

I was without kittens most of April, so I went back to the shelter to take more photos of shelter cats. Once again, I talked about not gifting rabbits for Easter. While I do believe it is possible to give a pet as a present responsibly, too many people believe rabbits are fully capable of surviving on their own so they get them with the intention of releasing them when they are tired of dealing with them.

I learned of the loss of a former foster Abby, who came into the shelter because she was diabetic and then never found a real home. She was fortunate to have a serious of foster homes in her last years and I am very grateful for that.

I tried to keep the blog interesting by sharing a few amusing things that happened like losing the auto duster and Jack being all handsome on the polar bear rug.

May:

I decided to reorganize the kitten room, which was a project in and of itself. I am of the belief that when I clean and set up the kitten room, kittens will come and low and behold...

Sherlock and Watson arrived at Casa de Gato and they had some fun. They were only meant to be short-term fosters, and when Watson was having a hard time fighting off a bug, after one trip up to see the vet they decided to keep them just to make sure they got over it before going up for adoption, and we were given Aloe and Aaron.

June:

Aloe and Aaron had just arrived and we were getting to know one another. They were a fun pair of kittens and I enjoyed having them immensely.

I took my own cats to the vet, which is always an adventure, and also went back to the shelter to take more photos of shelter kitties.

Aloe and Aaron were adopted and I brought home another set of kittens nicknamed the SuperHero Kittens.

They were another set of short-term fosters while they reach size to be neutered.

July:

I didn't think I would have kittens again for a while so I started with a series of "Then and Now" for my cats letting you see them as kittens as they all started life here as fosters. Jack, Muffin, Eli, Twee, Fleurp, Skippy. I had to interrupt that series though because we were able to get two more fosters

Yukon and Potato gave me a lot to work with in regards to amusing blog post titles.

Muffin and Fleurp had a canned food eating contest. They both have been clamoring for a rematch ever since.

Yukon and Potato went back for adoption and we received another set of super adorable kittens.

August:

These kittens were very short-term, but we had a couple of Nebelung lookalikes in the bunch so it was a lot of fun.

I created another "What I Know" post about dealing with mouthy kittens, I volunteered at a performance of the AcroCats in Portland and celebrated Black Cat Appreciation Day

I then brought home four more kittens who needed a little socialization

September:

The kittens came down with a touch of something that was making them feel wonky. I brought them up to the shelter to be observed and they improved rather quickly so the shelter kept them and put them up for adoption. I finally admitted we were looking to move to Vermont after having spent months looking for a new home. We were having such trouble because the CatMan was going to cover the whole state and there was no one location where there would be an office (but there will be one day and we were trying to guess where that might be) We both had some pretty specific requirements too - mine being a kitten room and a shelter to foster for and a vet nearby - and we probably looked at 100 homes. We finally settled on a house just outside of Vermont in NH - but that is for a different part of this review.

It was hard for me to not have kittens so I started blogging about caring about the Monarch caterpillars that were in my garden. I even tried to bring one in to watch it hatch.

October:

October was a little slow. I blogged about my cats, about a piece of tartar I pulled off of Twee's tooth, and the hatching of the chrysalis I found outside

I had started packing and doing so was stressing the cats out pretty bad.

November:

We were still packing and were dealing with moving into the new house. We had some issues that delayed our original move date of November 11th (the anniversary of Kit's death)

We ended up moving the Monday before Thanksgiving and we have been attempting to adapt to new work schedules, new home, new stores, new everything. I thought it should be a while before I started fostering as the cats really needed to get used to the house first. This left a huge hole in my heart as well as this blog, only having ten posts in November and ten more in December.

December:

The Crew took this move much harder than the last one, I am assuming because they are much older.  We have had a few trips to the vet to make sure they are in good health, and we spent most of the month attempting to finish moving out of Casa de Gato. We are 99% finished at the end of the month and basically just have to get the realtor to the house to take photos and put it up online. I really need it to sell quickly if for no other reason to be done with this whole thing. It hasn't been a full year we are dealing with it, but it feels like it.

I wasn't sure we were going to put up the Christmas Tree this year as the one we have is nine foot and our ceilings are much shorter. We found a place to put it and we once again decorated it in my favorite way.

And for those of you keeping track, it was Fleurp who was the first one to remove a toy from the tree.

Christmas was quite special for The Crew, as Santa brought them a real live mouse!!

I have been quite paranoid in the past week thinking they have found another, but each time it ends up just being a 'practice' mouse and they are so annoyed that I interrupt their training. Twee even worked on ambushing her mouse by putting her training mouse on the stairs to the bed and 'ambushing' it.

I will be going to the local shelters in the next couple of weeks to introduce myself and sign up for kittens. Hopefully, I'll find one that is importing kittens and needs help during the winter. I'm guessing not as it will be April or May before I have kittens again. Only time will tell.

I hope you enjoyed this small recap of the year and may the next recap find us all still together.

2017 Foster Stats: 23 kittens, two caterpillars, one unicorn.

2016 - A TFK Year in Review.

I really stink at looking back at what happened in the past year. I've really only done it one other time in the fifteen years I've been doing this blog, but we has a few major losses this year and it has been weighing on me that I no longer talk about Kit. I figured this might be a way around that 😊

Also, reviewing the year is hard, because kitten season skews the year up entirely. What year do I add kittens that started with us in December but are still here in January? Do I mention them twice? See.. such weird questions you only ask yourself when you run a blog and you are thinking of doing a year in review post..

ANYWAY.. without too much more adieu..

~*January*~

January started off with the continued fostering of Gandalf the Gray

He was such a fun little boy. It was a pleasure to have him here.

Eli celebrated National Static Electricity Day.. his favorite holiday of all. He gets so mad in the summer time when there is no static to be found. I also blogged about helped a friend out by sharing images to help spread the word about shelter animals and finding them homes. Seriously, I love this video

~*February*~

February saw the adoption of Gandalf and the arrival of Lemon, Sprite and Wryn. Lemon was a really sweet kitty but she lacked communication skills and tended to growl at me instead of purr. As some of you know, Lemon's daughters went on to be adopted by a woman I have made friends with and they have popped up on the blog a few times post adoption.

This month I also became really annoyed at an internet meme that basically told people not to take any advice off the internet when it comes to your pets. Yes, there are sources on the internet that are less knowledgeable than others, but if you can tell the difference between fake news and real news, then you can probably figure out a good source of information on the internet. (apparently, I am still bothered by this)

Raffe, my four-foot giraffe in the kitten room, underwent his first of two major surgeries to straighten out his neck. I did a pretty good job the first time, but the internal structure was just no match for two pound cats hanging off his head, so a second was necessary - but that was much later.

I also went to a shelter meeting where they talked about improving the shelter and the upgrades they had coming and I believe this was one of the first "shooting at the shelter' series where I try to take pretty photos of cats at the shelter to share with you. I do it to work on my photography skills - taking photos of kitties in the shelter environment is challenging because the lighting is often not very good and I don't want to hinder other people looking at the kitties.

~*March*~

March started with Wryn and Sprite still with us. My husband had gone out of town for a week and he was missed by all the kitties, none so more than Kit.

I spent a blog post musing about the pain of fostering which I think is a good read (if I do say so myself) and an important topic. And sadly, far too timely for what was to come.

I blogged about the dangers of lilies. I think it a shame that florists aren't required to put a warning on lilies considering how toxic they are. I thought it was just because cats are still considered second class pets, but I found out they are also toxic to dogs. I also did a post for declaw awareness day.

It also saw the start of the short lived 'random photos from my phone' series of posts, which I think is an awesome idea and I REALLY should get back to it because I take a bunch of cute photos on my phone and it would get me to back up my phone photos more often.

~*April*~

No joke, on April 1st I blogged about feeding your cat a vegetarian diet. I occasionally run into pockets of people who think this is a good thing. You can read the post or you can just accept "obligate carnivore" (and yes, I ran into a vegan who actually said the words 'the myth of obligate carnivore', and yes, it really hurts when I bang my head onto my desk)

Wryn and Sprite were adopted at the end of March and then I kitten-sat for them for a short while. Their new mom was moving and her house wasn't quite ready for kittens. Once she took them home, I went to the shelter and I brought home "Skinny" who I quickly renamed Art3mis. She was very unhappy with absolutely EVERYTHING going on and spent most of her time behind the couch.

I had gone to the NE Fed Conference and learned about how some communities are dealing with homeless cats. The statistics they provided about leaving cats where they are found were mind blowing.

As Art3mis' kittens grew, I could not restrain my grabby hands. Seriously, I should have gotten a medal for leaving them alone as long as I did!

~*May*~

Art3mis' kittens were still with us and things were fairly uneventful until it came to litter box training. And then it hit the fan. If there had been a fan in that room I would joke that it litteraly hit it because those boys .. well it wasn't fun

It took all the way to May 10th for the CatMan to feel comfortable meeting the kittens. He said he was afraid of stressing Art3mis out, but I think he was just afraid of Art3mis.

Muffin, Jack, and Fleurp went to the vet for a check up. Muffin's routine blood work found her SDMA levels were a little high. I searched high and low to find out exactly what I should do to help her. The only thing my vet had was to give her fish oil and consider a low protein renal diet. Since I object to Rx renal diets on several different levels (I don't believe low protein is appropriate and I hate the ingredient list) I opted for the fish oil. I'm not very good at it and subsequent tests had her SMDA actually dropping... so while I do believe she is in the beginning stages of renal failure there isn't much more to do than to watch her. Sadly, she also has some serious muscle mass loss in her feet and some arthritis in her bones, It aches to know my time is drawing short with my 15 yr old girl.

With healthy kittens doing nothing more than being cute, I did an AMA aka an Ask Me Anything post and gave you a tour around the kitten room.

~*June*~

Art3mis' kittens were still with us in June and were becoming obnoxiously adorable. Several of my posts held warnings about extreme cuteness. They thought climbing Raffe was super fun and was the reason he needed a neck transplant later on in the year.

I got another bee in my bonnet about cat food, having see too many people say that kitten food is vital for kittens to the point of making other people feel bad that they were feeding adult food to kittens. Is there a difference between cat food and kitten food? In a word, no.

I created another post about fostering and how hard it can be when foster families are told they should so totally keep a kitten. It happens to me and I try to explain that right now it is not a good idea for me to keep other kitties due to Jack's health. People seem to forget that their reasons for not adopting another kitty are valid reasons for other people too. It hurts when I see it happen to friends more... and I wrote this in response to a number of comments on a friend's situation.

June also saw Art3mis' kittens go up for adoption and the introduction of new kittens to Casa de Gato. Four little kittens and one was missing a foot! It was a good thing the kittens liked to hunt flies because we had a few get into the kitten room.

~*July*~

The new kittens were quite afraid of humans and would often attempt to hide from me. I had a few different people stop by to visit them in an attempt to acclimate them to new people.

I also introduced them to freeze dried minnows. That was fun.

~*August*~

There was a small glitch with the surgeries with the kittens. We do not know exactly what happened, but I have my suspicions.. as a result, Corrie spent a couple of days disorientated and having some issues with her coordination. I was worried about her and said so on my blog. That post got in front of the right set of eyeballs and happily, a friend of a friend adopted her and her bonded sister Lily (they are now Rose and Lily). The rest of them were doing well and were adopted quickly.

Muffin celebrated National Lazy Day. Twee celebrated National Middle Child Day. Skippy celebrated National Bow Tie Day again. Fleurp celebrated National Just Because Day. And Kit simply loves her dad.

August is the height of kitten season and I wasn't being offered kittens so I thought I would contact the other shelter in the area to see if they needed any help. They offered me two kittens, Emma and Elsie.

~*September*~

Emma had a bit of a health scare, but September saw her in good health and we just coasted until their scheduled return date.

They were replaced by Cinnamon and Cayenne

We celebrated National Teddy Bear Day with a Happy Bear retrospective. He is really starting to show his age.

I did a post on my diagnosis of Lipedema. It still floors me that 10% of the women suffer from this disease but yet conventional medicine still blames women for eating too much. If you can't buy a match set of bra and panties, you might have lipedema. Even if you don't have it, Please, educate yourself on it. There is a good chance someone you know does. Ten percent.. that is about the same as breast cancer and awareness for that is EVERYWHERE!

Cinnamon and Cayenne weren't here long, so I was once again without kittens. I decided to celebrate National Cheeseburger Day, and boy were my cats happy!

~*October*~

There were still no kittens at Casa de Gato. Fortunately, my friend had some, so I went to visit them.

(it is at this point in creating this blog post that I am seriously jonesing for kittens) In the second week, we brought home Benji who looked so much like Skippy I couldn't resist sticking him in a bow tie. He just needed a short stay to get caught up on vaccinations before going up for adoption.

Mid October brought us the fish kitties. Their Halloween photo shoot was a lot of fun.

***

It was also at the end of October that I came clean about Kit's health issues. She had several bouts of illness over the year, even having one blood test that came back that made the vet say FIP. I have a history with FIP, and I KNEW you couldn't diagnose it with a blood test and I KNEW she didn't have it, but the vet kept saying it. I finally had to stop him and say since FIP is incurable, let's pretend she doesn't have it, what else is there? He mentioned cancer and wanted to do x-rays and other tests. Since Kit is my husband's cat I wasn't making any decisions without him and after talking to him, he decided to treat her conservatively. We went back for the followup appointment and redid the blood work and were going to pursue x-rays when her blood work came back markedly improved. It was decided that she didn't have FIP or cancer that it was most likely just an infection. She did well for quite some time, then had another downturn.

Well, at the end of October she became ill again. She had some congestion and some sneezing so we just assumed she caught a cold. We put her back on conservative treatment, but she did not improve. One night I found blood. I pulled her aside and gave her a good once over and found a lump on her throat. I don't check my cats over every single day, but I do give them a hands on rather frequently. I can't say how long it had been since I had felt her neck and it was 'normal' but it couldn't have been more than a couple of weeks. It floors me that she would be gone two weeks later.

One thing I never shared with you was that the only way I could cope with her entire illness was to write blog posts in my head. I shared everything with you guys. Unfortunately, the thoughts in my head never made it to the computer.. which actually is probably a good thing because this would have been one of the saddest blogs ever.

~*November*~

The fish kittens received visitors and really enjoyed it. I also blogged about the fun of trying to photograph kittens.

Kit had her last non-illness related post, reviewing some treats for Chewy on the 8th.

and then on the 11th, we said goodbye. I'm still not over it. Every time I get emotional about it, I just tell myself that she is just in the other room. My memorial post is here.

***

To keep things light, we celebrated National Have a party with your bear day and had another Happy Bear retrospective.

I introduced you to the ARLGP's new shelter that they built.. it is absolutely amazing. And I introduced you to three more kittens: Paris Prism and Pirate.

They were under socialized, so they hung out with me for a few weeks.

~*December*~

I spent some time socializing the P kittens and they did very well. They went back to the shelter pretty quickly as well.

I decided to sell some catnip toys to raise some funds for vet visits; the sale went pretty well. I didn't get a lot of feedback so I'm unsure if this is something I should do on a regular basis or not. I also sent out TFK Christmas Cards.

I decorated my Christmas tree with cat toys once again. I doubt I'll ever decorate my tree with anything else ever again because it just makes me smile. (seriously, go to that post, you get to see the tree in all of its glory)

Happy Bear wrote a letter to Santa

And apparently, Santa is hard of hearing...

I ended the year without kittens, but I did create a post on why I feed raw food to my cats. I have talked about it on and off throughout the years, but never really put it all down in one place to have a cohesive explanation of why I do what I do and how it has helped.

~*The Wrap-Up*~

285 blog posts, 27 kitties fostered with just one birth at the house. It was a very long year and it had its share of heartbreak. Hopefully, we won't be going through that anytime soon. *knock wood*
