ouch

Well my newest foster cat has absolutely no social skills.  She is very high energy and wants to play play play.    I couldn't sleep last night and got out the fishing pole toy and got her running around for quite some time.  She has created a mass of scabs on the back of her kitten's neck trying to play with the kitten.  She has tried to "play" with my feet and legs a few times, but I was fast enough to discourage her.

Unfortunately today I wasn't on my A game, and I turned a little too quickly for her (as I was moving very slowly) and engaged her without knowing it.  Before I even realized she had engaged, she was attached herself to my arm.  Four teeth punctures and a few minor claw scratches.  I immediately said NO! and she backed right off and laid down as if she was very sorry.  It was NOT mean, it was play.  But sadly it drew blood.  

I reported it to the shelter and am following their protocols.  I let the ones that were bleeding bleed a bit to try to help remove any saliva, then I washed them well with soap and water and put a little peroxide on it.  Fortunately the peroxide didn't even react.  for the most part they look like red freckles instead of bite wounds  At this point there is just one point that is a little sore.  She has been with the shelter for a month at this point and is in good health.  I know well enough to watch this very carefully and not take any chances..  if it makes any change for the worse I'll be heading to the doctor

At this point I have no intention of returning her.  That could change if she refuses to learn how to properly interact with people.  I absolutely believe she was treating me like she would any other cat, and that wasn't improper play, but since I'm not a cat it is.  So we need to teach her to interact properly with humans... She so seems to want to, as she likes being petted (but she does get easily over stimulated) and rub against my ankles.

She reminds me a lot of Minerva.. Does this kitty have a future?  that is all up to her.
