Your Monday morning kitten update
The kittens are doing very well physically. They are becoming plump and their coats are starting to shine. They are doing well mentally, enjoying playing and interacting with one another. Lots of wrestling and chasing one another around. Socially however, I quite often feel we are taking one step forward and two steps back, but I'm sure it is just because I ache to hold them and to coax purrs out of them.
Winifred purrs a lot. Anytime she is even remotely happy she purrs. She has started coming up to me and mewing at me when she is hungry and has even brushed against my ankle a couple of times, but she is so freaked out by my hands that patting her makes her uncomfortable. If I can get my hands on her without her seeing it she does like it, but that isn't easy.
I think Mary is my favorite. It changes frequently, but she has such an incredible personality when she isn't freaked out and hiding from me, that I've been working extra hard on her. Sadly that seems to have made the other two less willing to interact with me, but again that might just be because I want it so badly. I am working on her self confidence and it seems to have been working. I am hoping to get an animal communicator to talk to her and her sisters to see if we can't convince them that the grabby hand things are a good thing.
Sarah is the one that seems to have taken a step back in the socialization department. I feel I was able to hold her before and she would relax some, but recently she has taken to being a bundle of nerves when I hold her. Which breaks my heart because she has an incredibly awesome belly spot I am dying to share with you.. it needs kissing frequently and she is not a fan.
I need to get the kittens out of the house here soon, but I do not feel comfortable taking them to work since I can't put my hands on them. Maybe I'll take them into the shelter for a once over... maybe for vaccines if they are due. Hopefully a little stress is just the thing they need to help them. I can only hope.
They are such cuties. Purrs to them for feeling more comfortable around humans, hope they get more trusting and social soon.
ReplyDeleteBoodie is like Winifred - the humans can't come at her hands first because it makes her nervous... but she loves being touched when approached indirectly. Which is actually way better than when my human brought her her to socialize. I hear she was hissy and cringey and wanted nothing to do with humans at all. Now she is almost normal... for a weirdo.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos. I especially love the first one. I hope the sweeties are a bit more social soon. My 7 year old main coon is a very skittish girl, but she still comes for smooches when it suits her.
ReplyDeleteI know you are doing everything possible for them. <3
ReplyDeletethese are so hard....people always want the "perfect" kitten and not the shyer ones...we hope something breaks and lets them trust you
ReplyDeleteCalm, positive thoughts! You'll do it; please do not doubt yourself.
ReplyDeleteThey are so adorable. Socialization sounds still very challenging for them, but I hope they feel more confident each day.
ReplyDeleteWe were gone offline for the weekend and now the kitties are all grown? How did that happen?
ReplyDeleteEmma and Buster
Thank you these photos have made me feel good
ReplyDeleteThat is soooooo hard to deal with - the waiting patiently part...
ReplyDeleteWe know they will come around...but we can understand how hard it must be to be patient until they do.
ReplyDeleteOh, Sarah. Why did you have to take a step back? Winifred, I hope you find that humans' hands are loving and trusting.
ReplyDeleteYou're working so hard for these precious ones!
Such cuties. Good Luck.
ReplyDeleteLuv ya'

They are all so adorable. I can empathize with wanting something so badly and it seemingly taking forever. You know Sassy's situation, which is different circumstances, but the same general idea. Sometimes I feel like I'm at my wit's end with it all, but then we have a big break through. Slow and steady... they will come around! How could they not, with one of the greatest fosters on the planet! ;)
ReplyDeleteThey are all so, so cute. We have our paws and fingers crossed that they turn the socialization corner very soon. Thank you for loving them, so that they can be adopted.
