Potatoes Au Gratin
I, Yukon, have called this meeting to let you know that my brother is an absolute goof.
That's all. You can go back to what you were doing.

Baked Potatoes
The kittens are doing much better. They finished their medication last week and I emailed the shelter yesterday to let them know that everything is going along with them and since they are of size when they might want them back. I heard back and they are scheduled to leave tomorrow morning.
They are still timid when it comes to new noises and experiences. They will run and hide and make sure that whatever it was isn't coming to get them. I have a neighbor down the road who shoots of fireworks so I know they are okay with that, but the rainbow slinky - that is just evil.
Yukon likes a nice cuddle. He is sweet and very much a bush dweller. He has some adorable rings around his tail. His whiskers are all broken off, I'm not sure if it is a sign of a nutritional deficiency prior to his arrival (the fur on his behind was previously shaved so I'm guessing he had some pretty bad diarrhea) but I am guessing that is the case because his fur feels a bit rough and sparse. I'm sure he is going to blossom into a beautiful mancat now that he is on a regular diet and is feeling better.
Potato is very high energy; total ADD kitten. He knows that I don't like it when he bites me, but he can't seem to help himself. Fortunately, he is very responsive to "ow" and stops biting right away. He also loves playing with my hair, which is adorable.
I'm excited for them to find their own human/s. I'm guessing that they will be in a home by the time the weekend is over.

Magic Potato Puffs
Magical things happened last night. I walked into the kitten room and neither one of them ran away to see if I was a threat first. Just yesterday morning they ran to the other side of the room, and the night before they ran and Yukon hid and waited to make sure I wasn't a threat first. Major progress pretty quickly, I am impressed.
And this happened.
If you didn't want to watch it, I'm not gonna tell you what happened (yup, I'm evil) but we can just say it was more magic (although you could probably read the comments to figure it out). Way to go kittens!!

Mashed Potatoes
To help convince the kittens that I am a "good thing" I brought out the "best toy ever"© which of course promptly scared them out of their petrified little minds. The fastest way to a kitten's heart outside of food is having a toy act like prey, so I slowly dragged the toy across the floor doing my best to make this thing act like an injured mouse. After a few minutes of feeling quite foolish, because I couldn't even see the kittens, Potato came out and started investigating it. Once he got his paw on it, he was hooked. Yukon was not convinced this was a good thing, but he knew that Potato's tail was super awesome, so Potato chased after the toy, and Yukon chased after Potato.
Potato now thinks I'm pretty cool. Yukon is going to need some more convincing. I've got the TV on full time to keep him used to the sounds of humans and I've got Rescue Remedy in the water bowl which hopefully will keep his anxiety level down to a minimum. Fortunately, I am able to walk right up to him and pat him, but he still runs to a corner when I move too fast. Potato's confidence helps though.
Now, on to the cute photos

The new tater tots
I have to interrupt the "Then and Now" posts I was doing on my cats to bring you the two newest additions to Casa de Gato. They are on antibiotics for a few days so there are hanging out at Camp "Learn to love people" and are on the intensive track. Neither one of them was overly thrilled to meet me when they first showed up.
The black one is called Yukon and the tiger is called.. get this.. Potato. It is a riot because they have fat little bellies that actually make them feel like potatoes so the names are kinda fitting. I keep calling Yukon "Cornelius" instead. He is not much amused with that either. Yukon has a very strong distrust of people. He doesn't like me nor does he like the Catman. I am currently at the point (they showed up Monday night) that I can walk up to him and touch him. He is reluctant to walk up to me. When I get him near me by playing with him when he realizes where he is he runs away. He has his safety zone and it is just out of my reach, but that zone was originally nowhere near me, so I have a lot of hope.
Potato is a flirt and he LOVES to play and bite my toes. He is not a fan of being on my lap, but we are working on that. He likes having the back of his ears scratched and has a bit of a motor on him. When he originally showed up he wasn't a fan of me either and sometimes when I move too fast he runs and hides.
They both really like to eat, thank goodness, and they have nice round bellies that are heavy for their size which makes me smile every time I'm able to touch them (so much so I felt the need to mention it more than once)
I haven't weighed them so I'm not sure how long they will be with us. They feel quite heavy, so I'm guessing once they are done their meds they will be moving on shortly after that. Maybe a day or two to make sure that they are stable so possibly next week or the beginning of the week after that.
