TruDog Treats from Chewy #chewyinfluencer
This month I received two items from Chewy.com to review. The first we are going to talk about is the TruDog freeze-dried dog treats. I also received Merrick Thanksgiving dinner canned food that I had hoped to get the kittens to eat but I didn't get to it before they left. Hopefully, a new batch will show up soon or Muffin and Fleurp are going to have a second Thanksgiving.
Now you might be asking yourself why a cat blog would be reviewing dog treats. That is a very good question. Two of my cats have restrictions on what I will allow them to eat due to urinary issues and how foods with a lot of plants in them can raise their urinary PH up into a range that is uncomfortable for them. This treat's claims says it is a freeze-dried raw 'super treat' and is made with "Ground Turkey with Bone; Turkey Heart; Turkey Liver; Herring Oil"
The pieces were a little larger than I normally give my cats and they were a too hard to break up. They remind me a bit of dog kibble without the greasy feel when you touch it. I was quite curious what was going to happen.
Fleurp ate hers, Eli took his and ran off with it, so I am assuming he ate it. Jack ate his. Muffin, who shuns pretty much anything healthy except her raw food and the soft freeze dried chicken breast only treats that she loves, pretty much gave me the cold shoulder for offering such nonsense; to which Fleurp said 'don't mind if I do' and promptly gobbled up the piece I gave Muffin.
This is another option in the treats I find acceptable to give an obligate carnivore, but considering Muffin's distant I'll probably stick to the treat she likes. I would have no problem suggesting to try this line of treats to any cat owner who wants a treat option that is made without plants.

I wish they would make these treats cat-sized - when my human tries to buy dog treats for us because they have healthy ingredients, they always seem to be in big chunks that are nearly impossible to break into smaller pieces.
ReplyDeleteThere is always that one....
ReplyDeleteExcellent review! We've wondered about giving crunched up dog treats to cats if they contain good ingredients. Now we know and know of a good brand. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteAmarula wants to know if you guys would be willing to share! Yummy!
ReplyDeleteWe're with Summer...we wish these were smaller and more cat size.
ReplyDeleteGreat review. Those are big treats.
ReplyDeleteI've never considered dog treats! Also, I don't think I've ever heard of Chewy before =) I need to do some investigating!
ReplyDeleteCute photos of the felines ♥
Interesting, I never would've thought of dog treats for a cat on a restricted diet. Glad that most of them liked it.
