Your opinion

So do you think that they say "cat" like it is a bad thing, and if so do you think that is bad for cats in general?? I saw this commercial yesterday and it has been stewing around in my brain about how annoyed I am by it.  I just wish that the stereotypes about cats would just die already.   But knowing that sometimes I overreact, I thought I'd see if I was the only one..

  1. Ok, I think they were just going for the rhyme... but I'm with you, I take offense.. Moving in with mom is bad, the fact that she has a cat should make it better, not worse!

  2. Well, I didn't find it funny, but I'm not particularly offended by it, either. It just seems rather dumb to me, but aren't 99% of commercials dumb anyway?

However, I were looking for that type of service, I wouldn't call them or knock on their door.

  4. Hmmmm! I think I agree about them going for the rhyme, but didn’t like it at all! They could have said rat, or bat!!!

  5. I did not like it at all. My human would NEVER have moved back in with her mother... but she would not have minded living with her cat!

  6. Yeah, a pretty weak way to get in a rhyme. :-/

  7. The whole commercial was stereotyped, from the way the people dressed to their actions, so I'm not as offended as I could be. But I do think they could find a more creative way of saying you might end up in less than optimal living circumstances. Bad mouthing the cat is so typical, ironic when you realize there are more pet cats than dogs. If they had been positive about the cat, I might be more inclined to use their service.

To me it was more offensive for the old lady stereotype. Old lady cat and lace doily. Agism. Hope they did not pay for the ad...

  9. Hmmm, OF COURSE they said Cat like it was a bad thing. Stoopy Humans. But since there are like 86 housecats in the US (I did! I did look it up!!) these Peeps is SOOOO in the minority I dismiss them wif a flick of my luxuriant tail.

  11. I found the ad tacky and just plain dumb.

  12. I agree that the rhyme worked, but having been in advertising for 30 years I can tell you that finding something else that works in this simply rhyme is not a problem for a skilled copywriter. This was intentional, including the dramatic pause beforehand.

    My vote: FIVE THUMBS DOWN!!!

  13. The ad was dumb as a dog. But the ad insulted everyone in it, including the Simon Legree banker, so we aren't all that worked up over 'the cat' reference.

I'll come out of my 'lurker shell' for this one and post my first ever comment.

Meh, pfft, bleh, and that's not even funny in the way it is supposed to be. It's so weak I can't even be bothered to be offended by it.

In essence though it is pretty rude if one wants to analyse it seriously.

In conclusion I would call it cheap and sad.
