Blog the Change - Being Thankful

When I tell people that I foster kittens, they almost inevitably reply, Oh I could never do that..

When people tell me of their going into the trenches day by day looking at cats in cages and trying to pick just one or two to save, knowing the rest are going to die, I always think, Oh I could never do that...

I know so many of us are so overwhelmed when we think of the millions that are dying, the sick, the homeless, often we think, oh we can never make a difference.

I know I've talked about this before, but the suffering of animals is NEVER going to be cured with large gestures.  The problem is just too large, but a million little gestures from all of us will go a very very long way.

The holidays are upon is. A day of Thanksgiving where we stop and give thanks for what we have, where we gather with family and friends. Consider taking some time and making a small donation to your local animal shelter or your favorite rescue. Drop off a few cans of food, send a few dollars their way. It does not have to be large, heck it can even be something you consider exceptionally small.

As you sit down to give thanks, be thankful that you were able to help in some small way.

(and for those of you who have already had your Thanksgiving or do not celebrate it, feel free to find another holiday or reason to donate.. Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanza, New Years, Halloween.. Your birthday, your mother's birthday, the anniversary of your third grade graduation.. what ever day is special to you. Knowing you did something good for someone else will make that day all the more special.)

  9. It's like the story about the guy walking down the beach throwing the starfishes back into the water ... No, I can't save all of 'em, but I can sure save some of 'em.

  10. absolutely. The little things always matter. MomFOD took me and my brother and sister in. They're both in new homes and here I am. We're only three cats that were saved, but boy it makes a HUGE difference to me, the biggest difference possible. Blessings on your for all the good work you do. -Crepes.

  13. terrific post! if everyone took just one pet, the shelters and rescues would be empty. one person does make a difference. overpopulation is a huge problem i see everyday. i am a foster dog mom and have rescued pets.
