These kittens are mine, thankyouverymuch
It is really fascinating watching Lemon mother these two kittens. On one paw she is very loving and gentle with them, on the other she is so ready to leave them and strike out on her own. She is more playful than other mother kitties I've had in the house. Usually, they are reserved and won't play because of their kittens, but Lemon will until the kittens want to get in on the play. When that happens she will almost act disappointed and stop, despite my trying to continue to engage her.
The little black kitten cares not that I'm there or not. I can reach down and pick her up, and patting her will get her to purr, but she very much wants to get down and play and be a little monkey. The little tabby would be very happy if I never came back into the room. She did voluntarily walk over my foot the other day and sniffed me at a different time... which is progress.
I'm not sure how much longer Lemon is going to be with us. She is showing signs that she is getting bored being in that room. As young as she is, I can't blame her. Every day I can keep her with us is a win, but once she starts showing signs of being stressed over it I'll contact the shelter about bringing her back.
