Shooting at the Shelter Series

Wryn and Sprite are at the shelter being neutered today, they will come home tonight as long as all goes well and will be here until they recover and then will probably go up for adoption. Due to Wryn's 'little sister act' of doing everything Sprite does right after Sprite does it, and her current demeanor we are seriously considering putting these two up as a bonded pair  We'll see how it goes.

Sadly, no one who reads the blog or the fb page has asked after them, so chances are I won't know where they end up.

I was at the shelter the other week. I was asked to take nice photos of the animals and volunteers for the shelter to share on social media, which is why I've been going over there more lately. I'm still not comfortable sharing the photos I've been taking with them, but in time I'm sure I will.

This little kitten was named Apricat. She wasn't quite ready to be adopted yet,
but she was being shown off anyway.

This kitty was in the community room in a cat cube.
I wasn't going to disturb her to figure out who she was, but I loved her tail.

Looks like they have a new cat tree.  I like it.
I wonder where it came from.

Luna is still there, still up for adoption.
She has been there for over a year now because she is diabetic.
They gave her a nice comfy chair to lounge in.

This is Cher, she is an 11 yr old diabetic kitty.
It is a shame that people surrender their kitties when they are diagnosed
as there are just so few homes out there who are willing to take them on.

Gru a 6 yr  Himalayan mix

Goober 4 yr male with urinary issues.
Hopefully, a new home will help him feel better and get those under control.

Gracie is a six yr old kitty also looking for a home.

Because Apricat is just so cute
This dog had recently had an eyelift.  I just like the way he looked in the light.

Finally, there is Madeline. She is a 17 yr old kitty who was pretty badly matted and they took some of the matts off but she still could use a grooming when I saw her.  When I met her she was in the arms of another long term volunteer who was considering taking her home for an extended foster to adopt situation.  She has kitties of her own and was unsure how they would all react to one another.  I personally fell for Madeline because of how much she looks like a black Nebelung.  Nebelungs aren't black, but I imagine there very well could be a case of melanism (aka the opposite of albinism) *shrug* who knows. That was what she looked like, she had the same facial shapes, the same eyes, and that general feel that I always get when I am near a Nebelung. In the end, it does not matter. Madeline is beautiful and she will be treated well in her old age, of that, I have no doubt.

  4. Great photos! It's a good reminder that there are more than dogs and cats at local shelters. People often don't think to check shelters before going to a pet store for guinea pigs (is that what those are?) because they don't expect them to be surrendered like that.

    1. Yup, guinea pigs. The shelter has taken in a couple of rather large groups of pigs because apparently they are very much like rabbits when you mix the genders..

    1. Thank you. I still think I have oodles of room for improvement.. so it is nice to know I'm just being hyper critical of myself.

  7. I wish I could take the kittens! Now that Chuck's health isn't as dire as we first thought, I think this is a great time to bring a new kitty into our home. However, The Hubby must be on board, so I'm working on him. Thank you for all you do; the fostering, the photos, the energy. It means the world to these animals!

    1. :) Do what I do, stick a kitten in his hands.. it is very hard for someone to say no once they feel it..

  8. 17 years old and at a shelter? How very sad. Apricat is adorable. And I didn't know dogs could get eye lifts.

  10. Gorgeous photos and gorgeous cats (and guinea pigs!). *PRAYERS* for loving forever homes for all of them. My furmily ranges in age from 11-18. FAMILY is for LIFE. Through thick and thin, in sickness and in health. Like they say about marriage (but it hardly ever pans out).

    1. Our shelter has amazing adoption rates, that I imagine other than Luna and Cher they all will have found homes by the next time I go in to shoot. Diabetics take forever to adopt out.

  12. What great photos of such beautiful cats, dogs, guinea pigs and bunnies. We think it's sad that diabetic cats like Luna get surrendered too.

  17. I hope Wryn and Sprite are OK and back home with you now. And I hope they can be adopted together. You took beautiful pictures! I hope all these babies find loving forever homes. This looks like a nice shelter. I wish our local shelter had a place for the cats to be free of the cages. Our county is not interested in doing more for the animals.
