Housekeeping

Generally I don't like to mix posts, so when I have to go back to look at the history of things I don't have to wade through stuff I don't need, but I don't feel like making you slog through posts.. so here goes.

A) we have gone from "kill kill die die", to "go away" to "what do you want"  So things are progressing nicely.  The little girl is so over being in a cage and she wants OUT and she wants to meet Simon who also wants OUT, and they sing at one another.  Oh my goodness they need names.

B) Simon and Schuster have diarrhea.  It started right after they went to the shelter for the day to get Schewie's eye checked out. I thought it might have been the dry food, so I took that away, and nothing.  Got the stool tested and they couldn't see anything because too much stool was on the slide, so we dewormed for round worm.. still diarrhea.  I've got an email into the shelter to see what they want to do next.  Unfortunately they don't seem to check their email on Monday so we'll see. They are still an absolute mess.  By this time they should be taking better care of their appearance.  They should be growing up.. they aren't.  I'm concerned.  it isn't like they are failing to thrive, they just seem stuck where they are.  and they make me want to clean their cage completely twice a day and give them baths.  But I don't have time for that, nor do I want to do that much laundry.  So they feel a bit like street urchins, and I feel so bad about that..   Tonight I plan on sand blasting them and their cage and then I'll sit down with them (after feeding so Simon isn't distracted) and having a nice long chat with them about growing up.

C) Fleurp had her recheck this morning.  Her red blood cells are much better, if not overly high.  Her platelet count was very very low, but he did a slide and confirmed that it was just the way they collected the blood, and her platelet count is actually fine.  He thinks she might be a little dehydrated.  She stopped licking cement almost immediately after starting the pred.  She's up to 11 lbs but on the decreased dose her belly doesn't feel like a watermelon any more.  We are going to go two weeks with out pred and see where we stand.  I have a feeling she's going to need semi annual or even quarterly visits for the rest of her life to make sure she stays healthy.  Dr. B hired new staff.  I should be happy for him but I'm still ticked it isn't me, but it just irks me that the new people don't know me or my history (EVERYONE should know me there!! and yes, I know I'm being five years old, I'll get over it) and I have to explain things.

D) Skippy... Skippy oh Skippy.  He's been sneezing out great big gobs of green slime randomly.  He's generally been fine, but the few times he has gotten congestion in his lungs it started with his sneezing out more stuff more frequently.  I so wanted to get a sample in to the vet to check out, but it was so random I didn't think it was ever going to happen.  Well this morning he sat on the bed right next to my jeans I was going to put on and had a sneezing fit resulting in the distribution of several great big wads of grossness... um.. thank you?  Fortunately none landed on my pants (I looked, I so hope I didn't miss anything) and I went and got a baggie to put it in and brought it with me to my vet visit.  Dr. B had the same reaction (um.. thank you?) and called it quite gross and asked if I wanted antibiotics for him.  I explained that other then the sneezing fits he was clinically fine.  No wheezing, no discharge, and since he had been treated with antibiotics in the past I asked if maybe we shouldn't do a culture and sensitivity test on it, and he agreed, so we are waiting on that.  I have a feeling Skip is going to be going into see Dr. B soon because he's been licking his back ankles bare, and I want to make sure it isn't medical.  I have a feeling it is behavioral aka self soothing grooming, being the newest kitty in the house, and that no one really likes his style of play.  Everyone seems to turn on  him and hiss at him when he wants to get a game of chase going on.  So I have been working with him to help build his confidence and work off some of his energy.

Purrs to the babies - it can be hard when you don't know what is going on but doing the laundry gets old quick. :)
