now this is interesting

I just got a call from the shelter.  Simon's stool had lungworm in it.

she said this could explain all of Dorian's symptoms too.

so bizzare, because A) I cleaned the living daylights out of that room before bringing Simon and Schu in there B) they've been stuck in the cage a majority of the time while in that room and the cage wasn't even in the room with the last set of kittens.

So we are going to put them all on Panacure and hopefully this will 'fix' everything..

*fingers crossed*

and I'm going to have to figure something out once these kittens go back to make sure no other kittens are infected after this.

Hi Connie. I work in the janitorial sanitation supply industry, so hopefully it's ok if I suggest something to you? I would contact janitorial supply outfits in your area and ask them in they carry quat (quaternary disinfectants). They are used typically in hospitals, chicken coops, animal control centres, funeral homes etc because they are going to work better than bleach. They tend to be concentrated but not too expensive. I used a quat in my home after my mom's dog was diagnoses with giardia.

If you can find a Buckeye International dealer that would be ideal. I would suggest Lemon or Mint Quat because they smell so nice. :) Good luck! Jane

  4. We use the mint one at work and like it, so I brought some home and use it here, too.

  6. Paws crossed the kittens will all be okay with this treatment! Awesome suggestions here for dealing with getting rid of the bug... one of the reasons my human loves the internet!

  7. I did use bleach to clean the room. the cage they were in wasn't even in the room. but yet some how..

Jane that is a wonderful suggestion. does it ship well? (aka can I get some from you?) :)

I've been trying to find out how long lungworm would live in the environment outside of a host, but I can't find that anywhere.

Limping calci is a really good idea. I always thought it involved URI symptoms as well. The info on limping calci says it should resolve on it's own. Since he already seems brighter I've got my fingers crossed that what ever it is it is being beaten and he'll be a pain in the tushie right quick.

  8. I suppose this is good news? At least it's something treatable. Will you be bringing Dorian home today?

  10. poor babies....it is never easy when they aren't feeling well but we hope the panacur helps.

Silver had calici (when she was so sick a couple of weeks ago). She started out limping and we found the ulcers in her mouth. After about 6 days, the snot broke and there was another 5 days of nasty green snot coming out of her nose. But, she kept eating like a champ (after cleaning her nose so she could smell it - haha) and that is about all you can do.

Of course you can! I'm in Ontario though, and shipping might be outrageous. Do you want me to email you to find out what city you are in, and I could find a Buckeye dealer for you? Otherwise, I can deffo try to source out cheap shipping options :) Jane
