Opt to adopt - Shooting at the Shelter Series

So when I went to have the foster kittens tested, I brought my camera and intended to take some photos while I waited for the test to give the results. This gave me about 10-15 minutes, and sadly I rushed through it so some of the photos aren't all that great..

Well look at this.  Gigi is STILL at the shelter waiting for a home.  I have NO idea why.. she is not 'diabetic', she just needs to eat Fancy Feast - available at any store anywhere.. and she she needs a little water mixed in with her food.. how hard is this people!  Someone come adopt her PLEASE!!  she'll snuggle you, give you head buts, sit next to you, etc.. she is a pretty awesome cat.  I think she suffers from "Bad Cat Name Syndrome".. They still have her listed as "Little Cat" at the shelter.  I keep telling them, change the name, she'll go home the next day!..

This beauty is "Smokey".  She is visually impaired, but her eyes contracted a little while I was in there so I think she can see something. I could totally be wrong. She was sweet and asked to be patted. She was in the room alone with two small rambunctious kittens.. which I thought was an interesting choice.  I tried to get photos of the kittens because they were so cute, but they were NOT sitting still even for a tushie shot.. so alas, I moved on.

The next room I went into had many more cats, so I didn't catch their names.  I loved the solid black kitty with her ear tipped.. not to mention the Katie look alike with her curled up whiskers.. Okay, fine, each one captured a bit of my heart.. even the one sleeping in the basket on the shelf in the window so I have no idea who it was or what he or she looked like..

last but certainly not least.. Chandler..

He is in a room of cages due to his restricted diet and need of insulin.  He's still got the limp, and he's still got the attitude, and I still love him beyond reason. He was out stretching his legs and investigating the storage cabinet here, but later I went back and gave him some love and a few kisses.. and he soaked them up like a sponge.. I do hope someone comes and takes him home soon..

  4. we love your pictures!!! we presume the test was negative?? Smokey is awfully adorable. And we don't understand the issue with Gigi...we had the same problem with Licorice - the issue isn't so bad and the diet isn't a big deal.

  8. I have never heard of the "bad cat name" syndrome, but can understand it - "Little Cat" may be cute, but it's not too creative :) I worked in a shelter and a stray kitten was brought in, covered in milk...so we named her Kemp (like Kemp's milk). We explained the background of her name to anyone interested in her, and she went home within days :)

  9. The head peep read something recently that said names don't make that much of an impact on the rate at which shelter adoptions happen. We aren't sure how true that is. She saw a cat in a shelter recently named Dirty. Who is going to adopt a cat named Dirty? Gigi deserves better PR so she can find a loving forever home. (So does Dirty.)
