An update on Abby

A photo posted by Connie (@tfkblog) on
So Abby has been with us for a little over a week now, and her numbers are so wonky I went out and bought a whole new meter (I needed new strips anyway) and sadly this one too is giving me wonky numbers, I know that her 'nadir' (meaning the lowest point in a curve when testing blood sugar levels every two hours through out the duration of the insulin - which in most cases is every 12 hours) is actually at five hours, not six, which can make things tricky.. but several times her glucose levels have gone the 'wrong way'... meaning when it should be going down, it went up, and when it should have been going up it went down.  I was really really hoping it was the meter, but it isn't looking like that so I might have to go to the experts over at the FDMB with the data I have to see what they think.. but I want to get a bit more data before I do that.. and considering I'm about to go into a couple of snow days here, I can get that pretty quickly.

Abby is still very happy to be out of the shelter, and thankfully seems to be calming down a bit.  She isn't as easy to flinch as she was.  She loves to sit right next to you and be patted.. sometimes more than eating - which is saying a lot.  She knows that she gets tested first when I show up, so she will jump right back on the couch for me and settle down right next to me in the perfect testing position. She is an easy bleeder too, which is nice. I suppose I am still used to Em, who was harder to get blood from than.. well... a stone. ;)

I have been trying like crazy to try to find her a home but I just don't think there is one out there for her and it breaks my heart.

  2. Oh, Abby, we hope you can find a home that works for you. The head peep still feels like she didn't do a good enough job for Louie, our diabetic cat who came before, and she is really touched seeing all you are doing for Abby.
