The Cat Video Festival comes to Maine

The Internet Cat Video Festival, produced and curated by the Walker Art Center of Minneapolis MN, recently came to Portland Maine. The screening was presented by the Maine Animal Coalition and all profits went to the Cleo Fund to help spay/neuter Maine's cats. Sister Steel Pan Band was playing which was pretty cool  because they were playing pop music on steel drums. Hearing them play Michael Jackson's Thriller was an experience.  The attendees are encouraged to dress as cats as there was an incentive of a gift for your kitty if you did.  I wore my cat ears and was given a catnip toy.

The theater. It was three-quarters full by the time the show started.

Introducing the video and discussion about the Cleo fund.

Recognizing a few friends who had their videos in the festival,

There were a dozen or so videos that I hadn't seen before, mostly in categories of videos I wouldn't go out of my way to watch.

I was a bit disappointed there wasn't 'more' going on. I would have liked to have seen a few vendors there selling clothing with cats on it or toys for cats, etc; but it was fun to go out and support the Cleo Fund and do so publically. I hope they do it again next year.

  1. It sounds like it was a nice event - but yeah, they could have added more vendors and stuff.

  2. That sounds like a fun event. The head peep went to see the festival in St. Pete last year, and though she had a lot of fun, the costume show surrounding it was a bit bizarre (and rather adult!), so she never shared it on our blog because she wasn't sure she knew what to say about it. She likes the idea of the steel band much better!

  3. Color me green with envy! I've wanted to attend the festival in Chicago, IL and Ann Arobr, MI but was unable to bend my schedule to either. I've got to find a way to attend somewhere in 2016!

  4. It's cool that you got to have an event like this near you! Maybe there be more going on next time it comes around. Getting an event started in a new area can be tough. It sounds like it was fun!

  10. The beauty of the space and food get 5 juicy stars. The place was built with class! I'm no critic, but these venues makes you appreciate design and aesthetics. I went to two events here. Both times, I had a great experience.
