Scotty update

Well he is still at the shelter...

He was very happy to see me last night.. purred and was lavishing me with attention which was nice.  He felt thin, and his weight on their scale was 2 oz lighter than the weight on my scale had been, which prompted me to find him some nice wet food and feed him that.

The tech said he had pooped twice, once solid, once liquid.  The vet was going to be in today, so I decided to leave him another night to be monitored and to see the vet if need be.

I've been wondering what might be going on, and I'm starting to wonder if we don't have a case of FCoV (feline coronavirus) going on.  It would explain a LOT.  In healthy cats the symptoms are very mild, and often not even noticeable, but can present as eye discharge, nasal discharge and diarrhea.  check check and check..   It is very common, and stress can make it present worse.  It is annoying because all the reading I'm doing to see if there is a medicine or something to give to help ease symptoms all talk about FCoV in terms of FIP.. (yes, FCoV mutates into FIP occasionally, but it is rare.. think when the common cold mutates into pneumonia)

well the kittens weren't all that healthy to begin with.. (except Odilia who has a random sneeze from time to time) so I can see this being that thing that pushes them to the edge..

I'm guessing we are just going to have to do supportive care - unless the vet finds something specific with Scotty.. but time will tell...

  8. Ryker had that as a kitten and we thought we were so progressive 16 years ago when the vet gave him probiotic shots and had us sprinkle live acidoph. culture onto his food - stuff that is pretty common today.

Paws crossed that Scotty builds up his immunities quickly.
