Practicing black cat photography

I swear I'm going to be an expert after this set of kittens.. The foster room has poor light so the whole thing is an exercise in patience and since my subjects keep moving it is not easy.

For those of you keeping score, we now have four cords detached (see that first photo) and three kittens that have eyeballs.

Week old kittens are cute but they are boring

The nice thing about having a mother cat when you are fostering is the same thing that makes fostering mother cats a little boring... they do EVERYTHING.. all you are needed for is to put food down and take out used litter.. and occasionally pay attention to mom or play with her if she is willing to leave the kittens for a bit.

Michaela is doing very well. Her mammary glands have gone back down to the 'normal' range from the 'chocked full to overflowing' status they were before the kittens were born. She is holding her muscle mass which is nice since she came here and I was able to feel the spines on her backbone. She was eating four cans a day and has recently slowed down a bit. We'll see if she stays at this level of consumption or starts back up again.

The kittens are about half a pound each now.. they are absolutely huge.

Still having issues getting the boy's face in focus.. I am so going to have to work on that. Michaela has the mothering instinct to know that she needs to go to the kittens when they scream. I had one of the kittens on the floor to see if they would attempt to stand on their own and he just screamed.  Michaela ran right over and seemed to say "Hey, what are you doing out here?" she sniffed the kitten a couple of times and then seemed to say "Hey, you belong in the basket, come with me!" and she ran back to the basket and crawled in and waited.

The kitten's eyes are starting to open

We have an overachiever, which is pretty interesting because she is the only kitten with her cord still attached. They are growing like weeds and things are going well.

You can see the Z on this one's face.. I've nicknamed her Zelda for now..
The boy did not want to have his face photographed. Like most kitties, he thinks his backside is his best side..
