I received a few good reports from the shelter about Rupert so I was hopeful that he would be returning to us to put on weight. I sent a text asking if I might get him back only to find out he took a turn for the worse and things were not looking good.
I have not heard a further update, but I am assuming that he did not make it. It breaks my heart that we could not save him, but I had a chance to love him and we were both the better for it.
It was very apparent he enjoyed his last few days. He bothered the repairman that stopped by the house he was in, he pushed the resident cats out of their bowls so he could have a single bite of their food. He thundered down the stairs and he even helped himself to whatever he wanted in the fridge (shhh she doesn't know I'm sharing this photo with you). He was always a very happy loving boy.
If by some miracle he is still alive and responds to whatever treatment they might have devised for him and I hear more I will share it with you, but I am guessing that is highly unlikely.
I am so sorry, Connie. I wish we could save them all! At least he was loved, even if only for a little bit.
ReplyDeleteHe's a heartbreaker. So much enthusiasm ... so much life ... so much personality and heart ... the world is a sadder place without him in it. I hope he's still hanging on, though I know that's just wishful thinking.
ReplyDeleteI'm SO sorry! And sad too. Rupert really had so much life in him - his spirit thrived even if his body didn't.
ReplyDelete(Still purring he hasn't left us.)
He's a candle that burns too bright and too fast...I can see him him over the rainbow bridge having a fabulous time,so sad that he's only destined to have a short time,xx Rachel
ReplyDeleteStill hoping there would be a miracle for this determined little soul, he is so precious. I knew his chances were not good being his organs were affected, but I have learned never to give up from having my own miracle girl Ms. Phoebe who lived for 13 1/2 years despite being given a prognosis of a few years at age 3. Please do let us know either way what you hear about him, I would like to continue to have hope.
ReplyDeleteIt's these times where I am in awe of your strength and dedication. Your vast knowledge is only exceeded by the size of your heart and compassion. While I'm feeling hard hit by the news about sweet Rupert, bursting into tears at the mere thought of him despite the fact I never even met him. I always thought I had a special cat gene that made me fall for them deeper and, but you make me look like a casual observer. I talk the talk, but you walk the walk, and that makes you an incredibly special human being. I learn so much from you through your posts, and our pm chats- always grateful for your willingness to share your knowledge.
ReplyDeleteI'm continuing to say prayers for Rupert, and send him positive and healing energies despite the grim outlook. My praying for a miracle. But I'm also sending gentle hugs, positive thoughts and love to you and your cat man. Your love for Rupert was evident to all of us the very first moment we witnessed it.
If there was a kitty that knew how to live life to the full, it was Rupert. What a very special little fellow! My heart is leaking a bit xxx
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. We loved the little guy through you. Thank you for updating us.
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Ditto Dee's comment. Praying for a miracle for Rupert.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry. I used to think the "at least he had safety and love at the end" were just comfort words but I've recently learned that safety and love at the end are a big deal! Thank you for being part of that.
ReplyDeleteLittle does Rupert know how much love and prayers are being sent his way. Thanks for sharing Rupert with us.
ReplyDeleteI cannot add anything that has not been said already. Sending positive thoughts and prayers for comfort, strength, and peace. He has touched so many in his brief time, thank you for sharing him with us. Godspeed, Rupert.
ReplyDeleteheartbreaking....this is definitely the worst part of fostering...you do everything you can and sometimes it just isn't enough.
ReplyDeleteI was so hoping for better news. Thank you for sharing him with us. He has touched many hearts. We have only recently began fostering ourselves and can only imagine the pain.
ReplyDeleteI am so so sorry. :(
ReplyDeleteHe is the cutest thing in life and so sweet - praying that a miracle has happened.
ReplyDeleteAww, so sorry to hear it, and so wishing there could be a miracle. He's such an adorably rumpled little fellow, and I love his spirit. Thank you for the love and care you've given him, and for sharing his story with us.
ReplyDeleteRest in peace, Rupert. You sure were loved in the short time you were on this earth and had a lot of fans.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe they are not keeping you updated - Dare we hope?
ReplyDeleteI fear that there is no point. Since I haven't heard one way or the other I don't know, but he has had such a hard time, I am surprised he was still alive as long as he was.
DeleteI know so many of us would like to know for sure about Rupert. It doesn't seem right to just leave it hanging like this.
DeleteWe are hoping to see another post that tells us that you heard from them and sweet Rupert is doing better and has not gone to The Bridge. What a little fighter and just so adorable. Hugs and nose kisses
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of love he gave and got in his short life ! May he be thundering around still, on whatever plane he now exists !
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. I envy your courage in facing tough times.
ReplyDeleteEmma and Buster
I'm so sorry....my heart is breaking.
ReplyDeleteOh no! This is so sad. I'm so sorry. I hope it's not so. You gave him so much love and that is a very good thing to hold on to.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry to hear this news. Rupert was such an adorable kit...if love could have saved him, he'd be thriving today.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear this about Rupert. At least he knew love.
ReplyDeleteWe're so sorry to hear this. We're glad Rupert got so much love with you. Purrs
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your loss. Rupert, the king of eternal bed head. 💕
ReplyDeleteRupert, we luff you.
ReplyDeleteStill purring for a miracle...
ReplyDeleteStill purring and praying for a miracle. My heart breaks for you. He was such a little fighter.
ReplyDeletePoor Rupert. I am praying for the miracle.
ReplyDeleteI had just written someone, remarking that though we think of cats being with us a long time or a short time, I don't think they look at their lives like that. I believe they think of 'good time' and 'bad time'. A few weeks of good times can erase a lifetime of bad for cats. If Rupert enjoyed his days with you, then he was enjoying life. I hope he has the chance to enjoy still more of it.
ReplyDeleteMy heart aches for Rupert, I was so hoping he would overcome his health issues. I'm grateful he had some time with you and was so feisty in his time with his other foster mom.
ReplyDeleteIt is just so sad!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that you suspect little Rupert didn't make it. If that's the case, at least he's known nothing but love his entire life.
ReplyDeleteI want so much to hold on to the hope that Rupert is okay. If by chance, he has crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge, he lived life to the fullest and was so happy. Thank you, Connie, for sharing little Rupert with us.
ReplyDeleteOh, Connie. We are so sorry to read this. We are praying for a miracle.
ReplyDeleteThank you for loving Rupert so much, and so well.
Oh, Rupert! Just so sad that such a bright spark should fade away like that. Thank you for caring for him and giving him the best last few weeks of his life. <3
