The most wonderful time of the year

The other day on Facebook I teased this photo asking: What are we doing with a basket of cat toys and a ladder ????

Well a few of you guessed correctly; Yes, we were decorating the Christmas tree..

I call it the most wonderful time of the year because the toys are dumped out of the basket where they are stored all year. My cats will occasionally dig through the basket, but this is the only time of year where they can be assured the chance to do a review of all of the toys.

Yup, my cats suffer from a severe deficiency of cat toys..

Hum, apparently I didn't share photos on my blog in 2013 and 2014.. I'm kind of surprised by that.. I do really love my tree. I loved it when I hung all of my 'real' ornaments on it too, but it was so much work to unwrap them all and put them all up only to take them down a few weeks later. One of my favorite Christmas time memories as a child was sitting by the tree and looking at the ornaments and this is one way I can give that joy to my cats.  I know they don't get it, but they really enjoy the tree. They pull the toys out of the bottom of the tree every day, and every morning we put them back for them.

Don't forget I am sending out Christmas cards, and I would love to send one to you. You can either send me your mailing address via email at connie@kittyblog.net or you can fill out the form here at Postable. If you would like to send me one you can do so at

Adoption day part one

The social media presence was strong with this group, as well as one very strong advocate in their corner and before they were neutered we had three of the four kittens adopted.  Sharon and Gail laid claim to Winnow and Belladora weeks ago and recently Lori asked about adopting a kitten and settled on Flynn as the best fit for her family.

I had guessed weeks ago that they would be ready for adoption this weekend, and everything fell into place and they were ready and arrangements were made to all meet up at the shelter today at 1pm.

Poor Ethan Errol didn't have anyone signed up to take him home but I brought him along in case I could convince someone they needed yet another kitten, and if not the outing would do him good.  At the last minute I did get a message asking if he was available and I sent information saying he was and saying I was heading to the shelter now but we could talk more later.

When I got to the shelter all three ladies were waiting for me and applications were all filled out and paperwork was almost complete. I felt a little bad that I wasn't there before them, but I was about five minutes early (and since I worked in the morning I really couldn't have been there any earlier) so I pulled the kittens out of the carrier and gave them to their new families.  There was much ooo'ing and aaah'ing and squeeing.

Ethan Errol wasn't thrilled about coming along until..

Yup, Ethan Errol went home with Flynn.  And yes, I did a happy dance in the middle of the lobby.. and no, I didn't cry but yes, it was close.. It also looks like they will all be keeping their names.

This is a first.. the entire litter was adopted without being put on the adoption floor. Only took 12 years.

The shelter has a Home for the Holidays promotion going on and so everyone received a t-shirt for adopting..

So by now if you have been paying attention you might be asking 'but.. but.. what about Lovey??"

that is a post for part two..

(and no, I don't have kittens at the moment, but I do have my name in for more so paws crossed I won't be kittenless for long)

Kitten's big day out

I finally got in touch with the shelter yesterday and they were able to fit the kittens in for surgery today. I will pick them up later on in the afternoon and bring them home for a few days of recovery and then bring them back for adoption. I am most likely going to leave Lovey if they have a spot for her, but we shall see.

The Crew try out the #SkratchKabin #sponsored

When I was at BlogPaws I met up with a contact who wanted me to do an honest review the KatKabin in exchange for one. I have seen these on other blogs and I thought the cats would really like to have one. They have two versions; the hard-shelled KatKabin for outdoor use, as well as a carpeted SkratchKabin for indoor use. We chose the SkratchKabin.

As you can see from the photos it was a hit from almost the moment it came out of the box.

Eli was in this thing every single time I walked by it for almost a week.

I finally found it unoccupied and I moved it out into the solarium where it very quickly became part of Jack's daily routine.  In fact it was loved so much that the padding that came with it was completely covered in fur and needed to be washed so I stuck a different pad in there which is still there because every time I go over to the Kabin to put the original padded bedding in there there is a cat in there.

Jack really loves this in the morning. Once we get up and start our day he has been lounging in here and I've had to be sneaky with his daily thyroid pill so I don't have to get him out of there.

Another kitty got to the Kabin before Jack could get there, apparently Fleurp claimed nexies..

Fleurp wouldn't even get off to defend whatever it was that Muffin said right before I took this photo they had a small game of wappy paw and Muffin tried to lure her away..

Suffice it to say this thing is a hit. I had intended to give it to the foster kittens, because I imagine it would be freakin adorable to watch kittens climb this and then spill out of it after nap time, but I don't think I have the heart to take it away from my cats.. They get so little (pic), they are so abused (another pic) and they deserve a little something all of their own..(ha ha ha ha ha)

It will stay in the solarium until they stop sleeping in it at which point I'll move it somewhere else and it will be a whole new awesome thing and they will love it all over again.

If you want your own Kabin, let me share with you a coupon code to help you get it at a 20% discount through the end of the year. Use code REFTH7Z7 at KatKabin.com  They are originally $99 with $29 shipping and the coupon brings it down to $108.20  The code is good for all of their products and accessories. If you have an outdoor kitty and it is becoming colder where you are remember these Kabins are up off the ground. They have accessories to help keep the kitty warm too.

I should also mention the cabin came with a 'tail' appendage that they hung a little toy mouse from so your kitty has something to play with. I had a feeling that a cat would play with the mouse when another was in there and annoy them so I chose not to add it on. You might not have this issue and could easily find this a benefit.
