Sponsored review - My Name is Bob

I was recently contacted and asked if I might like a free copy of James Bowen's newest book "My Name is Bob" to review.  This book is an imagined prequel to A Street Cat Named Bob that I read and reviewed in 2012. I adored the original book, so I looked forward to reading this one too. My Name is Bob is written as a children's book and is recommended for ages 4-7.

I'm sure just about everyone has wondered about the life of their rescued pet before they came to live with them, and James is no exception. This is his imagined version of Bob's life prior to their meeting. As someone who volunteers in rescue, I have to say this book hit home, and I found myself with tears running down my face as I continued to turn the pages. I knew the story would have a happy ending, but it still moved me. I mentally cheered when Bob and James found one another. Seriously, I adore these two.. (you did read where I got overly protective of their book when I was reading it in the car) and all of the illustrations done by Gerald Kelley are precious, the illustration of James is downright adorable..

When researching this post, I noticed at Amazon that they have several books:
They are also working on turning James and Bob's story into a movie.

This is a very lovely book, and I would recommend it. Since I don't have children, I can't address that aspect of the book, but you can read a review over at Batchofbooks.com by a woman with two children, and read their impressions of it.

You can also win a copy over at Cat Wisdom 101

Doing my best at trying to win them over

*sigh*

Winning these kittens over is way more work than it should be for their being so young. Baby Allie is almost there, but when her brothers freak out, she tends to follow them instead of trying to figure things out on her own.  Maxwell is willing to give me the benefit of the doubt, he and Allie did actually climb my legs yesterday to investigate me while I sat on the couch, but any movement sends him running. I can entice him out with toys, but so far away from a lap cat as to make me sad.

Faraday.. yeah, that boy is about one mile in on a marathon. He still hisses and spits. I'm fortunate that he isn't biting.. I both fear and hope that it is his belly causing the problem, that he doesn't feel well and that is why he's lashing out..

I sent an email to the shelter and haven't heard back. I saw him poop Sunday (watery) but not Monday.. so I can't tell you if he is doing better or not. But because of his watery stools, his hiney was covered in hiney stuff.. so I decided he needed yet another bath last night. He was not amused at the idea, but I wrapped him up in a burrito and walked him upstairs.

I let him look at The Crew who were all clamoring for my attention. I tried to explain to Faraday that all these other kitties liked me. I let him watch as they followed me around. I showed him Skippy who rolled over and showed me his belly. I let Twee have a whole conversation with him. Oddly he just accepted this. He didn't get tense, he didn't try to escape, or hide.. He just took it all in.

When I got back to the kitten room I cuddled with him for a while and took some more photos of him

These images are kinda humorous in a gif.. I kinda prefer it backwards where his eyes go from soft to closed to bugged out..

Now that his rear end is clean, if it gets dirty again I'll see what I can do about getting him some more help. It is far far easier to tame kittens when they are in good health.

The undeniable lure of Happy Bear

So over the weekend I walked into the kitten room to see this.. Seriously, how did Maxwell even know that Happy Bear was there, waiting to comfort and cuddle him??

I am seriously starting to wonder if Happy Bear doesn't have some mystical qualities..

some undeniable, irresistible lure to kittens that they simply can not resist..

Well most kittens can't resist anyway..

We have made some progress with Allie and Maxwell. They are willing to climb up my leg to get onto the couch, but if I make any attempt to pat them they cower and run. I snuck a few in, and got both of them to purr a bit. Once Maxwell figured out what was going on he said "NO WAY!" and ran.. Allie was more willing to let me pat her in all the right places and seemed to enjoy it. Faraday... now that boy is stubborn! he still hisses at me, even when I am giving him food, he hisses at the food, he spits, he runs, he hides. I can tell he is severely lacking self confidence because his tail is quite often curled under his body, sometimes so curled up that it looks a bit like a pig's tail. He will let it up when he gets into play with his siblings.. but he has a very long way to go. He's also still dealing with diarrhea.. I'm going to email the shelter about that and see what they want to do next.
