The undeniable lure of Happy Bear
So over the weekend I walked into the kitten room to see this.. Seriously, how did Maxwell even know that Happy Bear was there, waiting to comfort and cuddle him??
I am seriously starting to wonder if Happy Bear doesn't have some mystical qualities..
some undeniable, irresistible lure to kittens that they simply can not resist..
Well most kittens can't resist anyway..
We have made some progress with Allie and Maxwell. They are willing to climb up my leg to get onto the couch, but if I make any attempt to pat them they cower and run. I snuck a few in, and got both of them to purr a bit. Once Maxwell figured out what was going on he said "NO WAY!" and ran.. Allie was more willing to let me pat her in all the right places and seemed to enjoy it. Faraday... now that boy is stubborn! he still hisses at me, even when I am giving him food, he hisses at the food, he spits, he runs, he hides. I can tell he is severely lacking self confidence because his tail is quite often curled under his body, sometimes so curled up that it looks a bit like a pig's tail. He will let it up when he gets into play with his siblings.. but he has a very long way to go. He's also still dealing with diarrhea.. I'm going to email the shelter about that and see what they want to do next.

These fur babies make me laugh and your narrative is just hysterical. I'm so sorry Faraday is still having diarrhea.
ReplyDeleteThey are so cute on Happy Bear! I'm sure even Faraday will come around with your magic touch.
ReplyDeleteNo kitties can resist Happy Bear forever. You know you want to cuddle there, too, Baby Faraday!
ReplyDeleteThose pictures of Happy Bear and kittens are way too cute!
ReplyDeleteI hope Faraday will gain more self confidence and feel comfortable soon!
Happy Bear is a kitten magnet. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh they are so TINY!! This totally made my morning. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, that first photo is so adorable! Happy Bear is magic.
ReplyDeleteI love that last picture - with Maxwell and Allie curled up in Happy Bear's lap. And Faraday peeking out from the safety of the cat tree.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it would help, but one thing I used to do with my boy Simon back when he was a feral kitten (rescued from the parking lot at work as a starving & injured kitten at 10 weeks old) was cover him with a blanket anytime he sat in my lap or anywhere near me. I was then allowed to sneak my hand under the blanket and pet him - all day long if I wanted to. Any blanket literally became his "security blanket". He WANTED to be petted, truly enjoyed it, he just had to get over his fear of me as the big scary human his mama warned him about :-)
To this day (and he is now 15 years old), when I take him to the vet, if I cover his head while the vet is examining him or poking him with a needle, he feels more secure - and doesn't fight. He firmly subscribes to the theory - if I can't see you, you're not there!
I'm quite proud of my parking lot stray - he's come a long way!
that is actually one of the things I do do for them.. if they balk at being held outright, I'll let them 'hide' in a blanket.. it makes it cozier and warmer, and seems to help.. well that is until they figure out I tricked them and go running.
DeleteThat last picture is killing me DEAD.
ReplyDeleteTheWilsonZoo, that's a really smart idea!
Awww...what sweet babies! Love the last photo. I'm certain in time they will all come to trust you - how could they not?
ReplyDeleteLittle Happy Bear brings big smiles!
ReplyDeletegotta love Happy Bear. love those pictures - never have the red eyes from a flash been more accurate MOL
ReplyDeleteFaraday: Heyyyyyy, are you implying Faradays are, uh....EBIL or sumpin'?
DeleteMaxwell: uh, momma? Can I have a Happy Bear...?
ReplyDeleteTOO cute!!! Seriously, we gotta get the Big Faraday to stop coaching the Little one long distance!!!
Those kittens are absolutely adorable. I hope they gain their confidence soon. I was so impressed with the number of kittens and rabbits you have fostered. You are doing a wonderful service for homeless animals.
ReplyDeleteThat may be the cutest thing!!
ReplyDeleteThey are so darn cute!!! Faraday will come around, especially if you win over his brother and sister, which it seems like you get closer and closer to doing every day! Happy Bear is magical!
ReplyDeleteThey just look so cute snuggled on Happy Bear. They love that nice soft lap. We are so sorry sweet Faraday is still not doing so well and we hope he gets all better very soon. Hugs and nose kisses
ReplyDeleteDarling! My cats have confinscated quite a few of mine. I love big stuffies too.
ReplyDeleteHave a stool sample checked for certain bacterias and coccidia, ( hope my spelling was correct). Anyway, I've had that problem before as well, nerves do it as well. I've read that Fenbenzadol, again, spelling?? is used off label for that with great success. Conversion dosages are online. It's sold at Theisens, called Panucur.
