Twee and her coat of just two colors

I adore this photo of Twee I was able to capture the other day, because it shows off her infamous leg dangles AND the fact that her coat is two sizes too big for her. What looks like excess fur is actually skin and fur. It is odd because she has never been overweight, she was just born with a extra large coat (and she has a waddle that could put your eye out if she ran past you)

Twee also is about to get a visit from the Tooth Faerie.  I was checking out her teeth because we have been using a product to help clean tartar. Twee has had extreme reactions to sedation when she was a kitten so I am so hesitant to get her dentals. When I saw her teeth were covered in tartar so shortly after her last dental (it was a little over six months when I noticed the build up) I wanted to try something.  So far it seems to be working, but she had been flinching when I touched her to check in her mouth. I touched one of her tiny teeth behind her upper canine and she flinched again, and the tooth pretty much came off.  She is doing much better now that it has broken off, and as long as it continues to heal up I am going to wait and see if the root will need to come out when we are ready to do another dental on her.. which hopefully will be much later rather than sooner - but that will all depend on how she does, because I'd rather risk her under sedation when she is in good health than when she is not feeling well from an infection

  1. What a magnificent dangle! Poor Twee, we are sending strong healing purrs and keeping our paws crossed that you will feel better soon.

  2. Ouch! Poor Twee. Some kitties have worse teeth than others. Boodie is ours - once my human switched her and Binga over to an all-canned diet, it helped lots, but she still gets more tartar buildup than anyone else. Sparkle never needed a dental.

  3. Yikes, that must have hurt! We hope Twee heals up soon. It seems like some cats just get tartar buildup so much faster than others on an identical diet, and we're not sure why.

  4. Pretty kitty, with a pretty name! Just wondering out loud here...are their other types of sedation that vet's can use that would be better for Twee? I don't know, just spitballing here. Such a nice kitty, hoping she goes pain-free from now on.

    1. she has had three dentals since her near death experiences (yes multiple) as a kitten, but it worries me each and every time to no end. If she needs it, to me it is worth the risk, but if she doesn't.. I'd rather hold off. I have had cats who had teeth that have broken off and were fine as is and I had one that got an abscess from it.. so..we wait, and we bug her and make sure she is okay..

  7. Poor Twee....she is adorable up there. Mom says that Mo is like that....he has enough skin for a 10 pound cat but only weighs 8 pounds. :)

  8. Hey Connie - thinking about the raw food subject, because one of my cats has been on antibiotics for about ten months for a nasal thing that turned out to be pseudomonas, and her digestion is shot. Can I feed her raw to heal her, without having to go out and buy equipment? She only wants kibble, but that isn't resolving her issue, even though I've quit the antibiotics to try and get her little self together. Thanks! You can email me privately if you have any hints to share on how to do something like this on a one-cat scale, perhaps on a short-term basis.
