Well, my "kittenpillars" are still outside munching away, getting bigger and bigger. At last count, we had six, but I found one new baby one. Nothing really new to report, but here are a few more photos.
When I was a kid, I loved looking for caterpillars. I found a fuzzy black one on a tree and decided to keep him. I kept him for a week or so and my parents persuaded me to set him free in the woods. I did, but I was very sad afterwards. I then got a butterfly kit and kept a couple of caterpillars until they turned into pretty orange butterflies. They lived in a butterfly aquarium and I would let them free to fly around my bedroom. They were like my own little pets!
I love that they have antennae on their butts, so that you can't tell which end is which, lol! Wikipedia says they'll be fine, but I'm looking forward to talking to my friend who is a nature professional about this set. We're in Maryland; this set may come through here after they leave Maine...
