What's two more?

I returned Maxwell, Faraday and Allie to the shelter on Saturday (their story tomorrow) and when I did there were no more kittens needing fostering.  There had been a couple of scared kittens and a batch of six kittens and I left a note saying I wanted kittens when I saw them when I picked up the three from being neutered, but alas they didn't save them for me and sent them off to other foster families. When I left on Saturday I was kittenless

I had several discussions about this.  Being the height of kitten season, it was pretty amazing to be kittenless and a true testament to the power of the low cost spay neuter programs that have been in place in the area. I still remember the days when the shelter would be forced to euthanize box after box of kittens not only because of over crowding, but because they did not have a foster program and it was not humane to try to keep them in the shelter knowing they would get sick and die.

So "YAY" for no kittens needing help, but "BOOO!!!" for not having kittens to help..

But then I got an email offering me a kitten that had come in that was sneezing. I haven't had an ill kitten in quite some time, but I am always up for a challenge. When I got there yesterday they offered me two as someone else had some in.

As you can see they took no time at all to get used to the amenities.  They also took to one another very nicely, not even a moment's hesitation, no growling, nothing.

They are on meds for a week, and we'll take it from there. They are already neutered and already purr like a motor boat, so this one should be a quick one.

  2. So happy you have two kittens to foster. I sure miss Maxwell, Faraday and Allie. Rose looks just like my Tiny. Looking forward to hearing more on the three you previously fostered.

  7. You too? TNR is working everywhere then! Yay for kittens! I only have bottle-babies right now because someone dumped a box of babies off next to the Petsmart. The manager came and ran her off but the rescue group grabbed the kittens before she could toss them in the trashcan. She wouldn't be persuaded to bring her cat in for cheap spaying. Claimed someone put those kittens on her doorstep. In a box. That said, "free kittens." Right. Sure they did. Last year, we had nonstop kits from May (and they wanted us in April but were out of the country) until...hmmm December? November? Nothing since.

  10. It's good to hear that spay/neuter campaigns are helping so much up there! We have so far to go down here, but we are hopeful that we'll start making headway. In the meantime... these two are cute as buttons, even if they are sniffly.
