Jack visits the great outdoors.

Jack is doing well enough.  This is the slowest he has ever bounced back from anything, and I'm not happy about it. I am starting to wonder if he wasn't having an issue with one of the medications he was on because he does seem a bit brighter once everything but the thyroid meds finished up. I still have some pain meds if I think he needs it and I still have the ability to give him fluids.. but I think I'm going to hold off for a bit and see how he does.

One thing I have noticed that has cropped up is he is starting to chew plastic again.  He did this pretty badly when I first started him on home made raw food, and it abated pretty quickly once I started incorporating parsley into the raw diet.  I thought that I'd take him outside and see if he wanted to chew on some grass.. and he did.  it was a little hard for him to chew it since he is missing so many teeth, but he kept at it..  He was a bit freaked out being outside, but it was pretty obvious it made him feel better, so we hung out there quite a bit.  (last time I took him outside he immediately said very clearly he wanted to go back inside)

He was even feeling so well he started playing.  After this video I ran out of room on my cell phone, so I didn't get the video of him playing with the end of the leash. If my boy ever got lost outside, he would be a pretty impressive snaker..

He hasn't asked to go back outside, and he isn't been chewing any more plastic. I might see if he wants to go back out again later on in the week.

  2. You are so intuitive, figuring out that Jack may want grass! I am sending purrs his way - I do think he needs a bit of good healing energy sent his way.

  3. What a good job, deducing that grass would help. The head peep is kind of thick and probably would not have figured that out. Pierre chews plastic, and we had no idea that greens might help with that, depending on the cause. We're thinking good thoughts for him to feel better soon.

    1. If for some reason the auction gets extended, I would be happy to donate a few bow ties! I just found out about the auction today, so I don't think I could have a few made and mailed off before it closes, but do let me know if you extend it.

Hm, I have one who's always chewed plastic (she gnaws on plastic bags lining wastebaskets, and bites the toes out of Crocs). I wonder if she needs parsley.
