@AWSKennebunk had a 50th birthday carnival

The Animal Welfare Society in Maine recently had a 50th-anniversary celebration and they invited the community to join them in celebrating their 50th birthday. I found out about via their Facebook announcement and thought it would be fun to stop by and see what was going on. I know they are doing a major renovation to the shelter and was looking forward to seeing how far it had progressed.

They set up a little fair in the field by the Boston House and had a number of blow up bounce houses and slides for the kids. A few food stands and "The Snake Guy" who bought some snakes and some small wildlife skeletons to educate the kids about local wildlife. They even had a local DJ playing music.

It was an absolutely beautiful day for it and it looks like it was quite a hit.

This was new for me. I didn't realize they had a credit card reader donation thingy. How freakin cool is that. According to the sign if you insert your credit card it automatically charges your card $10.

They also had a birthday party going on in another part of the shelter. Talk about a twofer for that party

Because of the construction on the front of the building they were routing visitors to the side of the building. They had a volunteer standing at the door opening it for people and directing them to what they were looking for. Unfortunately for me, the cat rooms were locked due to the events going on. It was for the protection of the kitties which is totally understandable but it made for very poor photos. I didn't want to get in the way just to take a few photos, so we ended up leaving. It is good that they have enough staff and volunteers that they haven't needed to call me in over a year, but I do miss being close to the shelter that I'm fostering for.
