I got an email offering me four unsocialized kittens late last week. I stopped by to see them, and they were so unsocialized there was no way I could medicate them unless I caged fostered them. They had also ear tipped them so they were pretty much assuming they would stay semi-feral. I have a hard time with those because I bond with kittens and want the best for them, so I said no. Doing so allowed me to take on these four kittens. One of the black kittens is the boy, the other three are girls.
When I went to the shelter to pick them up I was told they would become hissy kittens when being medicated. Some of the staff joked they were just being overly dramatic. I brought them home and put them in the cage so I could gauge what was scared and what was learned behavior. Well it turned out that they are fairly outgoing, if not overly friendly. They'll come up to me, they have little fear of me, they aren't ready to sit on my lap and be patted yet. Medicating them is no big deal, I put the food down, grab them, stick them under my arm and get it over with before they realize what is going on, and by the time they realize they should be mad about it I've put them back down to eat more. The two gray ones are relatively symptom free, but the black ones have very goopy eyes and neither one of them are fans of getting eye ointment, but I think they realize it helps because one it is done they calm right down. Since medicating them isn't an issue, they have gained their freedom (feel free to watch them on the dropcam - linked at the top of this page) and are enjoying it a lot.
I also have this really weird need to see if I can sneak kittens into the house with out my husband finding out about it. So far so good, and unless something happens between now and when you are reading this, you will know I have kittens before he does.. *giggle* So far this is the longest it has gone, usually he can figure it out within a few hours.. He is going to figure it out on Saturday morning when, unless he has some weird work emergency, he'll be home when it comes to feeding time.
They are very cute, even if they do need some work!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you have little ones again. They are absolutely adorable. Hubby will be so surprised to see them.
ReplyDeleteDo I see a half-'stache on that little gray and white one? Do you have a Puff-elganger???
ReplyDeleteI love that you like to sneak kittens into the house. I'd totally do that, except that I have to walk through the house to get to the foster room! :)
Haha! Connie, I love how you sneak kittens in the house! Let us know how long it takes for him to notice. Last year I was talking with a lady who had 7 cats but her husband thought she had 2! I'd love to learn that magic trick!
ReplyDeleteSo many kittens owe you so much!
ReplyDeleteSo many cute kittens ! That's a lot of work ! Purrs
ReplyDeleteWe watched the video of your new kittens and they are full of energy! It's hard to imagine your husband not noticing the running around....
ReplyDeleteVery sneaky! I loved the surprise of watching these cuties on the dropcam! So playful! They're a delight to watch! :)
ReplyDeleteI like your medicating methods...I also like to get 'em unawares! TOO funny that WE get to know about kittens before hubby does!
ReplyDelete:) I was thinking the same thing as Robyn about the gray....though "puffleganger" is adorable
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, they are SO cute!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with them that they need medication? Herpes? It's great that you can get them medicated before they even notice :)
Did your husband figure out you have kittens yet? LOL ;)
What a sneaky one you are! ;) They are adorable!
ReplyDeleteMOL... I like how you write about your husband finding out about the kittens in such a tiny font... like that will somehow make him not realize what happened! The best of luck to these darlings! Purrs from the Zee and Zoey Gang!
ReplyDeleteHahaha, love how you're sneaking them in without your husband knowing! Lol. Thank you for taking in these four little beauties and giving them the love and care and attention they need. I took care of four little kittens in May (3 girls, 1 boy) and sadly 2 of the girls and the boy died, but the one girl survived and now has a loving home with a mom and her daughter. Yay!!!! :-)
