The kittens get their first nail trim

NOOOO She TOUCHED US!!!
Well the kitten's nails were a little too sharp for my comfort of trying to get them to run all over me, so it was time to give them a nail trim. I knew I had to go slow, and to make this as positive as I possibly could (yes, you can laugh now). I have to say it went surprisingly well.  These kittens are very comfortable with themselves and with the environment, it is just me they don't like and my grabby hands. When I am able to put my hands on them, they generally freeze though, realizing they don't have much of a chance to get away, and starting to trust that I will let them go if they ask. Mary was the least amused by it all, but I was able to get through it fairly quickly and while she still didn't like me, she didn't seem to like me any less afterwards.

They are starting to trust that I am not going to capture them without some warning, so they are happy and content to play and be silly and have wrestling matches as long as they are just outside of my arm's reach plus another foot or two.

  3. It sounds WAY easier to clip their nails than ours. We don't have any part of that, much to the head peep's consternation.

  10. It's a major production around here. It involves days of planning and whispering between the humans.
