Paris quickly realized that I am a "good thing" and has absolutely no problem with me touching her and is more than happy to have me rub her cheeks and scratch behind her ears. Pirate likes those things, but he has to make sure I'm not about to eat him first. Prism is absolutely convinced I am going to harm her and takes off when I make any sudden movement.
Yesterday I was petting Paris and Pirate thought that would be nice so he cautiously slinked over and hoped I would give him some attention and not all of a sudden turn evil. He received what he asked for and enjoyed it. Prism saw what was going on and she wanted to try out what the other two were obviously really enjoying but she was having a hard time getting over the fear. She'd take two step forward and then one back. Eventually, she was close enough that I could run my hand down Pirate and then just pass off on to Prism and she liked it. A lot. When she realized I was touching her, though, that became a serious problem and she took off.
She was hungry.. which helped the process because I then got up to feed them and hung out by the food bowl petting Paris who was in heaven.. food and a back rub! Pirate showed up and I scratched behind his ears too. Eventually, Prism showed up and I was able to touch her. She wanted to run when I did, but I just returned her to the food and lightly held her from running until she started eating again.
Last night Prism did the same thing.. so I gave her what she wanted until she realized I was touching her and she ran off. So I fed them and waited until I could touch her and then I left and sat down. Paris came over and jumped on the couch and I gave her all the attention she wanted. Like before, Pirate showed up and he too climbed up on my lap and we had a moment. Prism also jumped up on the couch, which impressed me to no end. I was able to reach out and touch her, which also impressed me. I was able to scratch behind her ears and make her purr.. but once again when she realized I was touching her (how she did not notice before is a mystery) she was uncomfortable and left.
So, all in all, I would say progress. I am hopeful that spending more time with them this weekend will do wonders.
Sending Christmas Cards
It is that time of year again. If you would like a Christmas card from me, you can send me your info or add it to my Postable account. If you would like to send me one, my address is PO Box 94 W. Kennebunk ME 04094 (it is also in the sidebar for future reference). I also have a pile of cards left over from last year so if you would like one of those too feel free to mention that or stick all fives in the phone number at Postable.
I was hoping you were going to do Christmas cards again. I packed the one from last year when I moved in August. I'll get you my new address.
ReplyDeleteThat Prism sounds like a silly girl! I hope she figures it out in the short time you have her and the other two!
ReplyDeleteOh my cat! Kitten piles! Thank goodness there's a lover in the litter so the others can see that you aren't so bad ... than again, if any person could win them over, it would be you.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how much progress you can make in such a short time.
ReplyDeleteThey're so gorgeous and healthy-looking!
ReplyDeleteOh my Ceiling Cat, look at those big eyes. We wish you quick success in socializing these sweet tots.
ReplyDeletePetting while eating...that's just dirty pool...hehehehe! You'll have all three kittens climbing on you like adventurers climbing Mt. Everest in no time.
ReplyDeletewe've had that happen here and it is amazing "oooo - that feels good....omg you are touching me!!" duh :)
ReplyDeleteAwww. I've always been a bit like Prism. Pop can pet me anywhere but not TW. Sometimes I'll be sleeping and she'll be petting me. I enjoy it until I realize it's not Pop and then I'll try to bite her. I've been here almost 11 years and I still do this.
ReplyDeleteSounds like progress, indeed!
ReplyDeleteAw, they're just so cute. We know they will be crawling all over you looking for attention in no time.
ReplyDeleteSuch cuties, I am glad some are getting friendlier.
