Thankful Thursday

Well I don't have any decent kitten photos to share (they are way too fast for anything more then a blur at this point.  When they do stop they are either in the litter box or up on my chin wanting attention) So I thought I'd do a Thankful Thursday post.  I've had a lot on my mind lately and none of it really on the good side, so I figured this would be a good exercise in "pulling myself up from the muck" as I've been worrying about Fleurp a little too much lately, I've come to the conclusion that Muffin needs a dental, we just moved our work office and that was a stresser and a half- not to mention I've already worked in this particular office years ago and I know it is going to be COLD and the wiring is so bad I can't use a space heater so I'm going to be COLD this winter.

So..

I am thankful that right now all my kitties are in good health.  yes, there are issues, but they are manageable

I am thankful that I didn't lose any kittens this year. *knock wood*

I am thankful I foster for a shelter with an 80+% adoption rate for cats and that they actually imported kitties this year to help out.  They are also building a feral enclosure to help house feral cats so they don't have to just put them down when they come to the shelter.  I'm thankful they adopt out shy and skittish kitties and that there are people in the general public who are willing to adopt them.

I  am thankful there are other people out there who feel as I do about NBC's Animal Practice.

I'm thankful I have "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" on my Tivo to watch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VffXZ44_LQ (at 2:30 BANG! Right on the head!!)

This is one of those movies from my childhood.  Ranks right up there with the Creature Double Feature and Godzilla movies.

I'm thankful I have a job.

I am beyond thankful that while I'm writing up this post watching said Mr. Chicken my husband is emptying and refilling the dishwasher..

I'm thankful for fall in New England and the beautiful color of the trees.

I'm thankful that Jack loves me so much he wants to walk all over my keyboard and stick his butfur up my nose - cause he thinks it is his best side.

I'm thankful I have found the simplest and easiest bread recipe on the face of the planet - even if it does take at least two days to make it.  And I'm really thankful for Grass Point Farm Butter that I put on it, because it is FABULOUS!!

and I have to wrap this up fast because Skippy just showed up and apparently I need to be drooled on NOW.  I'm so thankful that he takes care of this drool deficiency I keep ending up with.

  2. I'm surprised your shelter euthanizes feral cats...there are so many organization in Maine (at least Southern Maine) that helps ferals.....

    1. Ferals that end up at the shelter have (or had) no where to go. It isn't easy to put new cats in a feral community. Generally it would just be one or two very unsocial kitties that would come in, but now they are faced with a whole displaced colony due to a neighborhood dispute.

    2. Bummer... You may want to put the word out to Tommy's Feral Friends in Greene, Lewiston/Auburn Alley Cats and Friends of Feral Felines in Portland and maybe even Forgotten Felines in the Mid Coast area for help when you get an "unfriendly". Its worth an ask before a kitty loses a life. There may even be some other organizations that I don't know about...those are the ones I do know about.

    3. I'm sure the shelter did what it could. It takes pride in it's near "no kill" rates since it is an open admission shelter. And as I said, they are creating a place for feral kitties.

    4. That is definitely a tough spot to be in! I am thrilled that they are making room for the ferals! We have a bunch at our shelter as well. Some of them over time have come around with TLC, then there are others that refuse to under any circumstances....so they will be with us for life.

  4. The kitties know you are feeling not-so-happy and are there to cheer you up. You have a LOT to be thankful for. I am thankful for meeting you in the cat blogosphere. :-)

  5. That's a good list :) The tree is gorgeous. Our mum understands all about butt fur up the nose. The other day a Lishy fur got so far in that she felt like she was pulling her brain out when it was removed!

  10. DROOL deficiency? MOL! Mommy just looked up your bread recipe - she's always looking for good recipes. She experimented on her shabbat dinner guests last night with a "chocolate cake" that had NO sugar and NO flour. She wouldn't tell anyone what the main ingredient was until everyone took a bite and actually LIKED it. (Black beans)
