If you clean it, they will come.. right?

A clean room waiting for foster kittens

I spent part of the weekend cleaning the kitten room.  I thought I'd change the location of where the couch had been to try something different. Well, it is not all that different as I've had a couch in that location before, but it has been a long time.

Since I wasn't in any rush to clean, I took some time and cleaned the walls, vacuumed under the vinyl, and washed the windows.  In the next couple of days, I'll probably work on getting Raffe's neck to stand up straight again.

It seems so weird to not have kittens in the heart of summer. When I first started fostering this was the time of year when I would often have two litters here. The culture of pet ownership around these parts has evolved to the point where there just isn't the overpopulation here, so I wait for the shelter to import kittens from other areas that are small enough to need fostering. It is weird, but it is also wonderful.

  3. Wow, you should come to where we live. There are a lot of kittens at the shelter. We've had to deal with several hoarding situations in the last month or so. Very sad.

  4. Wow, that's awesome! We wish the efforts here were making that much of a dent. We've had a busy kitten season so far at the shelter.

  5. That's great that your area isn't overpopulated! Hopefully that will work its way around the rest of the country.

  6. It's actually kind of nice, seeing the kitten room empty at this time of year! But I'm sure your shelter will have some import kittens for you soon.

  7. That you are kitten-less is the best news I've had all day (I mean that at least SOMEWHERE things aren't out of control due to human apathy). Though I suppose it could be somewhat strange to not have to care for the kittens when that is what you are used to. I hope the kittens that need you will find you soon :)

  8. That is amazing! We are drowning here. :( And adoptions have been very slow this summer, too.

  13. It's so cool that rescues can communicate with each other, and get kittens, cats, dogs transported to where they have a better chance of adoption. And a big thank you to the volunteers that make the travel happen!

  17. I wish that was the case here, all the foster homes near me are full so I don't know what is going to happen to the 4 kittens I transported to get fixed. Actually 3 so far, hoping for #4 tomorrow and maybe the Dad too.

  18. Well if you find yourself looking for jobs before more kittens arrive I have a whole house that could do with a clean - it's just a short(ish) flight!
