Momma "Snow" shows great improvement

I've decided Mom is named Snow.  I doubt I'll go with dwarf names for the kittens but I'm going to keep Snow's name as I call her that and she seems to respond to it.

So as we left it I was going to write to the shelter to see if we could get Snow some help.  She ate overnight - a bit more than I expected her to but no where near as much as I would have liked her to. I wrote and told them what was going on, and their general response was 'are you sure this isn't because she isn't as social and is stressed?"  *sigh*  I've been doing this long enough to know the difference.. but whatever.. I replied explaining a bit more in depth why I thought she was in trouble, but the general fact that she is eating now where she wasn't kept me from pressing the matter.

Snow isn't the first mom cat who has 'chickened' her kittens while at Casa de Gato.. but she is the first one who has done it for so long and the way she hangs her head while she does it and really freaked me out. Shortly after I wrote to the shelter explaining that this wasn't the standard stress response I saw (and posted here to the blog) that she FINALLY laid down to nurse.

I sent a copy of the photo to the shelter telling them that I thought things were on the upswing but I would absolutely keep an eye on it and let them know if there was another issue (like they expect I would do anything different)

Several hours later

Sitting up to nurse, looking dejected.. it broke my heart. It also didn't help that the bedding once again was covered with kitten poop... she is not keeping up with their output. Needless to say I was a bit panicked. When I got home I went right down to see her and saw this..

I had put a 5.5 oz can of food in EACH one of those bowls!!  so I was relaxing a bit and after I got the kittens checked on and after weighing Snow I saw this..

Laying down again!! Yay!  she weighed 5lbs 11 oz!! YAY!!

She was a a bit clingy this evening and it was hard to get her out of the nest to clean it.  Kittens poop, kittens walk through poop, kittens spread poop around.. fortunately this box is very easy to clean, but I need to get them out of it to do it. Snow returned very quickly to the box each time until I put her up on the couch.  She REALLY liked being on the soft couch, which was so very very sweet.  She sat there through my changing out the bedding and returning the kits to the nest, and my getting up and leaving the room. Looks like she is totally ripe for being spoiled rotten! I'm going to have a lot of fun trying.

I am not ready to take for granted that she is totally over this, but I'm feeling a lot better about it.
