Rest in peace Smivick..
For those of you who saw yesterday's post but might have missed the update.. the kitten did not make it. I have no idea if this was Smivick or not, (I don't think so I saw a glimpse and I think this one is a girl but I could be wrong)
I am kicking myself now for not taking portrait shots this weekend. They were leaking stool everywhere and I just didn't want to bother them any more than I had to.. I even thought getting the videos was a bit much.
What really gets me beyond the fact that this is the second kitten this year, this is also the second boy kitten of a set of four kittens that look so much a like that had two boys and two girls in the set. I am absolutely floored by the similarities to Henri Sigmund
Beyond the loss of the kitten, a small part of me cringes every time I type Smivick, because I am really loving that name and now I don't get to 'use' it.. I could just see his adoption card, and the look on people's faces and I could imagine that name bring smiles to people's faces.. I would love to give the name to his twin brother, but I can't do that.. Maybe I'll save it for a future litter and call him Little Smivick..
and now since the seven dwarf them is right out, I've got to come up with names.. How about we honor Smivick and you take your initials (or those of someone you love) and turn them into a name.

I'm so sorry Smivick didn't make it. This is one of the really hard parts of being a foster human. Not every kitten can thrive, but it doesn't make the loss any less painful.
ReplyDeleteWe are so sorry that little Smivick did not make it. We know how hard you work to turn these babies and their Moms around to health. We sing the little soul to The Bridge with rumbly purrs and love, and we send you hugs and love too, because what you do for these darlings is amazing
ReplyDeleteLove from
Gerry, Mungo & The Ape xx
We're so sorry Smivick didn't make it. You work so hard for all of the foster kittens, and it's heartbreaking when one doesn't have the strength to make it through. Lots of purrs for you.
ReplyDeleteThis is just so sad. I am so sorry little Smivick had to leave so soon, but he must have heard a call. You are so wonderful for the love and care you give and the sadness that you sometimes endure. Sending lots of purrs and hugs your way.
ReplyDeleteso sad that some times they just don't make it,Paws crossed for the others to make it,xx Rachel
ReplyDeleteAe are all so sorry to hear about dear Smivick. He must have had something really impawtant to tend to as an Angel. Hugs from all of us.
ReplyDeleteThat was a cute name and it made us smile. We are so sorry he didn't make it....mom says the little ones are so hard to lose.
ReplyDeleteThere are just no easy way to comprehend the loss of a kitten. Such promise of new life and then it's just gone. We are so sorry as we know it cannot leave a piercing of sorrow in your heart. We will keep this family of babies and precious Mom in our prayers and honor little Smivick with them all growing up healthy and in forever homes.
ReplyDeleteOh that is just so sad. Please know you did absolutely everything and more to help him! My initials aren't very helpful for forming a kitten name, but might I suggest Isaac? It's in honor of a co-worker's grandson. He is 2.5 and had major heart surgery last week. (He's doing ok but has had many health problems since his birth.)
ReplyDeleteFrom that little mama, it's amazing there weren't more. What a shock, even after their issues. Love to them all and that little mama Snow.
ReplyDeleteWas there another kitten close to Smivick? Name that kitten Smivick 2. How about some other fun veterinary abbreviations?
Rest in peace sweet little angel Smivick. You were loved.
ReplyDeleteHugs and purrs from the gang here...how about one name for each letter in Smivick's name?
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful idea. Seven letters but if I don't duplicate the I (and use Isaac as Renee suggested) I think that would be very touching. Thank you so much for the idea!
DeleteSo..
S
M
Issac
V
C
K
And now there are three of each (boys and girls)
I'm very sorry. He is an angel now...and you should use the name again someday in his memory. I think about that with Sweet Baby James. Someday...not soon but someday...when I foster a little ginger guy again and he thrives I know I will name him after the angel that did not. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteI have occasionally done tribute litters.. they are always so bitter sweet..
DeleteThis is what makes you so darned good, Connie! You really care for each and every one! I am sorry little Smivick didn't make it. The name is so great, you should use it again in memory of him. Caro x
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Smivick didn't make it. I like Katnip Lounge's idea of naming them. :)
ReplyDeleteWe're so sorry you lost a little one Connie. Purrs and hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteThe idea of using each of the letters is genius...it honors little Smivick and connects him to his siblings.
ReplyDeleteSending my thoughts and prayers.
I have to agree the Katnip name suggestions is brilliant. I can't wait to see what they are all called.
ReplyDeleteI read your post from yesterday and felt so terrible for you. We're so very sorry .... ((hug))

it is so amazing how calm and complacent Mom is as these little mounds of fur crawl all over her and tug at her for their meals. It is so sad about Smivick. We hope all the other kitties are improving with less loose stools. We know that you are an A+ foster mom and how hard it must be for you when one of your tiny charges go to the RB. Purrs and hugs, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet videos! Sorry again about Smivick.
ReplyDeletePurrs,
