#TakeYourCatToWork on #TakeYourDogToWork Day

Today is take your dog to work day, but I say we don't let that get us kitties down.  As you know, I am lucky enough to be able to bring my foster kittens in to work on occasion to help socialize them. I know it is a huge benefit to them, and it improves their self confidence and allows them to adjust to new situations easier when they do it when they are so young.  I wasn't able to bring my current set in as they are a little young and litter box habits aren't to be trusted yet

I know most cat people aren't able to bring their cats to work, but we are not alone, most dog people aren't either.  But that doesn't mean we can't celebrate in spirit..

And know, if you have a young cat or kitten, the more you take them out of the house when they are young, the easier it will be on them when they are older. Introduce them to as many new experiences as possible. Repeat a few of them from time to time too so they are familiar with them. Take your kitties to a friend's house if they are accepting of your kitty, take them to the local pet store. I once took Jack to a local ice cream shop for ice cream; I will admit he made quite an impression on the folks there.

I often see people decry it as abuse when you travel with your cat, I say it is only stressful on the cat when they are not used to it. Make it a positive experience, be loving and full of praise, and you too can have a kitty you can take down to the local ice cream shop.

or that will hide in your inbox

  1. mom wanted to declare today "take your foster kitten to work day" but figured the "allergic" boss wouldn't approve :)

  2. I LOVE going to new places! And I adore hotel rooms. In fact, my human is seriously considering taking me to Catalina Island for her birthday next month, as we have no cat shows to attend.

  3. I agree with this. I took Tucker on many many trips as a youngster, and he was a well-adapted kitty. We did the same with Ringo and he is the same. Sadly, this isn't always true. We took Sadie on many trips, even out of state, and she is not as well adjusted as we had hoped.

  4. Noes, we cannot take the kitties to work today, because when I left for work Miss Emma is already settling in for her early morning nap and I ain't disrupting that. No way.

  5. We agree. We see many cats who were used to travel and don't care about it. Mum admits that she didn't do well with us to get us used to the car. Purrs

  6. Mommy didn't have us when we were kittens so she couldn't get us used to travel at a young age. Now we hate it! But ice cream does sound yummy.

  7. You know, I admit I have never tried traveling much with my cats. They always seem so stressed even on short trips to the vet. Maybe, as you say, had I started them out as kittens they would have been more comfortable with travel.

  8. Those kittens are lucky to get to travel. You're right...the more they travel, the less stressful it will be for them.

  9. I would agree with you - I wish we had taken Jazmine traveling when she was a kitten. She's such a special girl, that I think she could have been a great therapy cat. Now that she's older, it would definitely stress her out... Purrs from Deb and the Zee/Zoey Gang

  11. We had a Siamese cat that loved to travel. He spent a lot of time in the rear window. Drivers behind us were always surprised to see him.

  12. It would be so nice to be able to take my cats to work, but unless I worked at home that's not going to happen. I didn't take my cats out when they were young and a trip to the vet is a noisy ride.

    Love the kitten photos!
