Schrödinger's kittens are here.. ish

I twisted my ankle at work yesterday so when I got home from work I sent my husband down to check on "Skinny" and do the necessary care.  He joked and asked if she wanted to be his friend if he could be, I laughed, but he is right, lady cats love him.

He came up a few minutes later with a concerned look on his face. He heard kittens. So I toddled downstairs with my camera in hand and this is about as close as I am going to be able to get to them.

this is why.

Yeah, I thought she hated me before.. that just went up to level 1000. I tried to make her comfortable by moving the towels on the couch to drape in front of the couch and make her feel more private, but every step I took, every move I made, she growled.

This is absolutely killing me. I want to make sure she is okay. I want to make sure the kittens are okay, I want to clean things up, I want to offer her someplace soft and warm for her kittens instead of the floor..  I have no illusion that she will come out and put the kittens in the basket that I love fostering kittens in, and I doubt she will use the white cube there as that is far too open as well, so I decided to create her another cave hoping she will take advantage of it.

If she voluntarily gets into the cage, it would make my life SOOO much easier. I do not want to stress her out forcing her somewhere else, but I so don't want to leave her where she is, as birth is never a clean prospect.

so.. I have kittens.. I have yet to see them with my own eyes.  I did risk pissing her off to no end to move the meshare webcam to the corner where she is hiding, so I saw them.  I attempted to take a video, but the app didn't record it (although I did find a really cute video from last year). While looking at the video after I placed the camera as best I could (with a very long stick) I am pretty sure I saw at least three kittens. One of them I saw a good amount of the body of, and the kitten seemed healthy enough.

So I have kittens, and I don't have kittens.. and this is KILLING ME!!  I WANT KITTENS!!! (and yes, feel free to laugh at me)

  1. Well, con-cat-ulations anyway, grandma! I'm sure you'll be able to get to them without her taking your hand off while they are still young enough to socialize. That was always one of my fears, having an unapproachable mom cat and kittens she wouldn't let me socialize. We occasionally take in feral moms when we trap litters so they can be nourished by her and socialized by us, but it's always a touchy situation. Good luck!

  2. Well, in her own way, she thinks she is being a good, protective mother. I hope she figures out there are other options open to what she has now.

    1. I don't have confirmation, since I can't see the babies, but she is being a fabulous mother. Just overly protective.

  4. Congratulations! And we're not laughing at you...we totally understand where you're coming from. We sure hope mamacat relaxes a little so you can get to the kittens.

  6. Looks like she came to you just in time to have her kittens. Best of luck in getting to them. Hopefully she'll come to realize you're there to help, not hurt.

  7. I can't believe how quickly she had her kittens, and it's good that she is in a safe place.

  10. Wow!! I'm right there with you - I want to see those babies! Perhaps you could set up an enclosed place like a box or carrier in the middle of the room, and try to encourage her to bring her babies in there? I hope you can get a good look at them soon! Do you think momma is feral?

  11. Oh wow...this is a tough situation. And so frustrating for you. At least momma has access to food and water, and is safe from predators (even if she thinks you are one, we know you're not). Hopefully she'll figure out sooner rather than later that she's landed in her own Ritz Hotel and take advantage. Will be sending lots of good thoughts. Hang in there!

  12. This is a tough situation. Hopefully she will make use of the "cave" that you made for her. Since she sat in the middle of the floor before, do you think she would get into bed there now? Or do you think everything changed because she's a protective mama now? Good luck with this. I have a feeling you will figure something out. :-)

  14. It's a good thing you've got the meShare camera to help keep an eye on them. Kittens are so sweet when they are newborns.

  15. Concats on the kittens. I hope she calms down when she realises there is no threat to her.

  17. Hooray for kittens! I certainly hope they are all well and mom will soon let you near her to provide the needed care. She sure has been rattled by all this.

  18. That was fast! I hope Mama and kitties are all healthy.

  19. Oh bless you I can imagine how you are feeling, but let's focus on the positive that she is being such a good little mum. She loves them kittens and wants to keep them safe.

In time she will trust you, of that I have no doubt. But you is just going to have to be patient!
