Interesting product for urinary health in cats

So when I went to visit Amy, (so apparently it was Lisa.. I feel horrid that I mixed that up, but I do have a really good excuse) she gave me a product designed for urinary health. I had never heard of it before and found the idea kinda fascinating..

It is called "Solu" It is designed to be added to water to increase palatability for a cat to encourage water consumption.

The package says it is made in Missouri. It also says they have a website at solupet.com but the website is not working. There is a facebook page but it hasn't been updated since July.  I thought that it might not even be being sold any more, but I did find it over at Entirely Pets

So anyway, I thought I would give it a shot. While not a fan of fish anything for cats with urinary issues, I also know that none of the reasoning why has been fully documented. I tend to avoid it out of habit more than anything else. I figured if I could get Jack drinking more water it would be worth it.

So they come in little gel strips, much like breath strips.. only slightly bigger.. you put them in 3/4c of water and let them dissolve.

Yeah, they weren't waiting for it to dissolve, so I picked it up and hid it for a while.. and it turned into this

This did not garner nearly as much interest, and they pretty much all walked away from it.. well except Muffin who gave it one more try..

Sadly it didn't garner the interest I was hoping.. but that is OK. Sometimes you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your prince.. This one didn't work for us, but it might work for someone else.. that is if you can still get it.

I was very happy for the opportunity to try this.. thank you Amy..I mean LISA!!

  2. An interesting idea. Curious how it's any better than something like the old standby of "tuna water" if it's fish-based, but anything is worth a try!

  4. No harm in trying! Mommy tried a fountain to get Cosmo to drink more but both he and Ling (it was just two of them then) avoided it like the plague and the fountain was given away...

  6. Well, it was worth a try. Wouldn't that be similar to giving the cats tuna juice diluted with water? You could also try chicken juice diluted with water. My cats love chicken juice (juice from canned chicken; I buy the low sodium one) and I'll dilute it with water. The cats drink it right up.

  7. Well, it sounded like a good idea . . . Our mom just left a faucet running slightly for Lumpy, and that was enough to get him drinking. A very Happy New Year to you all! Here's to many wonderful things in the new year.

  10. I was using tuna water for awhile until my vet told me it can exacerbate constipation, which was terrible since I was using it for my constipated cat. I usually go with Goat's milk (either raw frozen or dehydrated in a pinch) or even with the steamy pups stuff. Flavors the water like chicken broth and they seem to like it. Thanks for letting us know about this! - Alana.

  11. It is an interesting idea. I've always avoided fish too until Annie came along who won't eat any canned food but the fish flavors (and only some at that). Island Cats had a good idea.

    Happy New Year!

You Actually Make It Seem So Easy With Your Presentation But I Find This Matter To Be Actually Something Which I Think I Would Never Understand. It Seems Too Complex And Very Broad For Me. I Am Looking Forward For Your Next Post, I?ll Try To Get The Hang Of It! http://www.diobola.com/
