OK then..

I could not figure out why the orange kittens were just not getting over their URI.   I've been seeing URI all over the net in other foster homes and I just figured they had a bad strain of it.

Well today while giving the kitten massage, I looked down and saw a tape worm segment.  Oh how I hate parasites.. I grabbed a Q-tip (Romeo would be proud) and removed it from the kitten and ran off to the shelter to get some medication.

So this will kill the tape worms - I'm sure they all have them - and hopefully allow them to heal up right quick since I'm going to have to give them all back at the end of this week because I am going to the Hills Media Tour of their factory in Kansas next week and DH said he would much prefer not having to take care of fosters as well as our seven by himself.

Kind of a shame too because when I was at the shelter I saw two mommas with babies, one with four NEWLY born kittens (we removed the birthing bedding while I was there) and one with two kittens and one of them looked like a baby polar bear (it looks like it might be a flame point when it grows up) and his little sister who was sickly and was breathing hard.  Oh well, I'm sure they will be fine and there will be other kittens when I get back.

I also met a really cute little kitten that was up for adoption named "Apple" she reminded me of Fleurp, and I started calling her Fleurp's little sister.  Since Fleurp came into the shelter alone, her mom very well could be still out there making kittens.
She actually reminds me also of one of the women who I know through the shelter, they have the same eye shape.. :)  Anyway, this cutie conned me into taking her out of the cage to 'cuddle'.  Of course her version of cuddling was 'you hold me while I look at the top of the cage and see if it will support my weight"  she's a little con-artist this one! When I put her back in the cage she decided to play with the kitty in the cage next to her.
I don't think I've had such a strong desire to adopt a cat in a while... but alas I left with out her.

as a side note, I was getting overwhelmed with spam comments, so I've turned off anonymous commenting.   Hopefully that will be enough for the spammers to lose interest in my little blog.  I hate this, because I really like the ability for people to comment who haven't a blog

  1. Blech, tape worm. Gross. But now that it's been caught, I hope the little ones will be healthy again soon. Healing purrs from the boys. :-)

There have been a few kittens over the years who have "called" to me...all of them have been quiet and some have been sickly. Typical of me. That's how both Annie and Nicki suckered me in. Chum and Derry were/are just what they seemed, sweet, gentle-natured Beings.

BTW, I stopped allowing anonymous posts a long time ago and that definitely reduced the spam to almost nil. Once in a while I get a comment from "someone" who's a spammer, but it's rare.

Do you have a "generic" email addy on your site? I have ours, listed as keas DOT fuzzy DOT tales AT....so whatever automatic spammer web crawlers are out there (whatever you call them) can't get my email), but if someone actually looks in my sidebar, they'll find it.

  2. Oops, I see you do have your email addy there. Though I do recommend changing it to text only (no real "dot" and "at"). Maybe I'm incorrect, but I thought I had read a few years ago that there are spammer web crawler thingies (lol) that can mine email addresses from your site. Or maybe I'm just being paranoid. :-)

  3. you are absolutely right about web crawlers grabbing email addresses... That email addy on my page is actually encoded via CSS so web crawlers can't get it. well until they find a way to overcome CSS.. at which point I'll probably change my email addy and start over.

  4. Hope they bounce back after the deworming and kick the URI bug...OMC! I forgot you will be in Topeka, too! I am bringing some catnip toys left over from BlogPaws...they will be my donation to your foster kits! And I will have some champagne and other assorted beverages in my room too...oh yeah, I drink...

  8. Blogger seems to filter out my spam comments quite well. Also I have comment moderation for any post over a certain number of days. If some readers don't have blogs they can use the Name/URL option and just put in their name. I have a few that do that. Am not sure, though, whether you can have that option in without also the anonymous one?

Hope the little guys are much better soon xx

  9. Blogger did filter out the spam comments and I was getting about 20 a week, but now I'm up to almost 20 a day. You guys don't see them because blogger filters them out but I still get them via email in case a legit comment gets flagged as spam (it happens very rarely) I'm just hoping they lose interest in me and I can revisit this decision.

  10. I'm glad you figured out the problem with the babies!

I hope the shelter will address the fact that the one little kitty is having breathing issues! :(
