Snuggling with Muffin

I was just snuggling with Muffin, and my time spent with Minerva made a light bulb go off somewhere in the back of my brain.

You know, it is pretty spectacular that we get to love and snuggle with these creatures that have great big sharp pointy teeth and a multitude of claws any one of which can (and oh all right I'll admit occasionally do*) draw blood at their whim, but they choose not to.

I just fell in love with cats all over again.

*Fleurp found a pile of cat fur and was playing and licking it.  I didn't want her eating it so I went to take it away from her, and she smacked me and very much had the attitude of a sullen teenager who you just told they couldn't do something.  Except for the fact that I bled after being smacked, it was really quite funny - and yes she got her claws clipped that night.

  2. I've been lucky and except for being bitten by Annie once (redirected aggression when I used to walk her on a harness, briefly, and she had an encounter with another cat and neither would back down), and a few scratches by accident, none of the cats has given in to any urge to bite or scratch. Once in a while Derry, when being cuddled, will put his teeth, very gently, on my fingers, at which point he sometimes gets hissed at and always gets ignored.

I might not be so lucky with any future adoptees, though, if I ever decide to go that route. :-)

  3. I would agree except I currently have a 4 month old foster doing laps on my chair behind me and stabbing me in the behind with his back claws.... :)

It is amazing that for as much damage as they COULD do, they generally choose not too....

  4. I agree. If cats like you, they like you for you. I was amazed one day Mica Moo suddenly played with my hand. She had never done anything like that before, and she was so incredibly gentle. She must have had kittens, only a mother cat could be that soft and gentle.

I’d must look at with you right here. That's not something I normally do! I just take satisfaction in looking at a publish which will make people believe. Moreover, many thanks for permitting me to comment!
