good news is bad news

Well I want to be upset, but it is hard...

I can't believe it has been a week since I turned in the kittens and have not heard back from the shelter about taking more.  I finally screwed up the courage to call the other shelter and offer my fostering services but have not heard back from them yet either (they were a little confused as to when the foster coordinator was going to be in, and apparently she wasn't in all weekend)

So I wrote to the shelter and asked about the mom with the babies I mentioned earlier.  They decided to keep them at the shelter because they want to do frequent wrap changes on the baby with the bad legs.  (the baby with the bad skull didn't make it).  I want to whine that I can bring it in frequently, but I won't.  If being there is best for them, then being there is best for them.

I had stopped in prior to emailing to see if they were still there (which is how I knew the little one didn't make it) and there was just a few kittens waiting in the back room and none that needed fostering.  I checked the sign out sheet and very few supplies are leaving the shelter for fosters at this point so it looks like there just aren't that many kittens who need help.  Which is a great thing (although looking at craigslist you can see there are still a ton of kittens looking for homes - so in a few months when the second round of kittens starts you know the shelter will be full) but it makes my poor little foster room so lonely and empty... and this blog not all that interesting.  I can post photos of my crew, but those don't seem all that interesting to the readers... and with the heat they aren't being all that interesting to me either.  Just a whole heck of a lot of "dead kitty" impersonations.

I am still waiting to hear back from the second shelter.  I'm assuming they are going to call while I'm at work today, and we'll see what they have to say.

  1. Yep - we do the dead kitty imitation here too....too hot to do anything else. We are sure you will be full up in no time. And we are purrin for that kitty family.

  2. Oh dear, it sounds like you have a serious case of empty foster room. I hope you take a little time to rest. There are kitties out there that truly need you and I bet they will find their way to your place. Meanwhile, your own crew lolling around all over the floor is very funny!

  3. We're doing the "dead kitty impersonation" here as well, given it's into the 90sF with the humidex factor and we don't have any a/c. Even the mom is impersonating a slug or perhaps snail -- i.e. not moving quickly at all!

We're sure your foster room will be filled up again in the not-too-distant future, so perhaps just enjoy the respite!

And around here, we call it "melted kitty syndrome"! :o)

  5. It's finally warm here in the Northeast (yeah)-- pleanty of "dead kitty impersonations" here too. Some kittehs will be lucky to have you...but big kittehs are pretty cute too. Plus who doesn't want to hear about Fleurp -- the name alone makes me smile.

  6. *waves hi to Auntees*

I'm just a smidge south of you... so be careful, there are cute kittens on this blog that are available for adoption all the time :)

  7. *waves back to Mommeh and the crew* -- I have two "mature" cats who are very set in their ways and wouldn't tolerate a kitten. I have to drive by the Bangor Humane Society daily to get to work...close enought to walk to and peek at the cuteness at lunch but I refrain...sigh. But please tell Fleurp that she has the bestest name ever.
