Why does she do this?

I understand the walking around with the mouse in her mouth.  I can even get my mind around holding a mouse in her mouth while she kneads on a pillow (she used to do that with her favorite pink micro-bead pillow)  but what I don't understand is why SHE (neutered) straddles this particular cat bead and prances around in circles on the bolster part of the bed.  She was raised with her mother (and her aunt for that matter) and stopped nursing on her on her own so it isn't like she was taken away from her mom too young..

  1. That is very curious. Can't say I've seen a cat do that before. I could see kneading the bed, but with the mouse?

  2. I would say its territorial, she's saying this is my kill,my bed and is get the bed comfy before settling down with the kill. You some time's see this with wild cats when they have a small kill that they don't want to share.I wouldn't worry about it to much

  3. Is there such a thing as a cat psychologist? I think she may need to see one, hehe. My cat doesn't do that. She'll only play with her kill until it stopped moving and then she's done with it. As for the bed attitude, I've not seen it before either. A real puzzle.

  4. That is a puzzle!! Austin kneads quite energetically and for some length drooling all the while, but never seen him (or any of my other cats) do it with something in their mouths?

  5. She is a little OCD about it. She doesn't settle. I actually have about five minutes of video of her doing that, going round and round and round straddling the bumper..

I'm not worried about it in the least, it just vexes me that I don't quite understand what she's doing and why. She is our "fetch" kitty, in that she will often bring us the mouse (you can see there were several in the bed already) for us to throw. She goes bounding after them and brings them back to us... but randomly she'll get it in her head to 'mount' the bumper and go for a 'ride' around and around and around..

  6. It would be interesting to know why she does this ritual.

  7. My Kiefer loves fuzzy blankies and does that too - minus the mousie. He grabs the blanket with his mouth sometimes. He's male and does unmentionable things to the blankie. He was neutered at the right age - not too young or too old. I'm clueless, and I warn guests not to put the fuzzy blankie on their lap...

  8. Ha ha ha! That was fun to watch! She's a pretty kitty. And honestly, you Humans seem to think we should tell you EVERYTHING about why we do what we do. Forget it! We have SECRETS. Accept that.

  9. Haha! Too cute! You wonderf if it's a comfort thing huh? Cats are complicated creatures. That's why we love them! :)
