The problem

with black kitties and iPod video and the light being behind me, is you only get a portion of the mayhem of Moose and Squirrel's escape plans.. and yet I'm going to share it anyway
Think maybe they are hungry?

You don't see a whole heck of a lot of Petra in this because she climbed right up me and sat on my shoulder.

  1. that is Silver's favorite game - sit by the door and hope the human forgets to block it.... :)

  2. Oh, squeeeeeee, I find it just adorable how little kittens get so excited about food. That little pathetic meow just gets me. Cuuuuuuute.

My big boy, Uncle E, was on my desk when I played the "hungry kittens" video. He's STILL going from one speaker to the other -- sniff, sniff, where's the baby? sniff, sniff, sniff, repeat!

  4. If there is one thing I hate, its being climbed by a cat. Even a little one. Being climbed by a whole litter must be excruciating! What a frightening thought! How cute they all are though.

  6. Billy's doing the 'climb the bean' thing too. He loves sitting on my right shoulder (not the left, for some reason), nibbling on my ear lobe.

  7. I deal with the escape issue with a low barricade across the doorway; when it's low enough for me to step over, they can still climb out, but it takes them longer so I can pick them off.

The climbing bodies thing hurts less if you trim their front claws. Still not recommended for silk or other fine fabrics.

  8. the couch is so close to the baby gate that they sit on the edge of it and launch themselves over the gate. (Kittens have no fear) I've learned to open the door long enough to get them to jump, shut the door so they don't make it, then quickly open the door and jump over the gate before they have a chance to scramble back up on the couch. :)

I do nail trims as soon as kittens aren't nursing for their main source of nourishment. If they are bottle fed, it is immediately. Claws stimulate milk flow. The first nail trims are usually confusing to kittens as they used to just 'stick" to fabrics prior to the trim, and it usually only takes them an hour or so to figure out control over their claw 'stubs' and climb everything - including me. Fortunately most of them know only to do it when I have jeans :)
